As a side note I can't understand how even if you have a credit card style drivers license, it isn't valid as ID unless you carry the paper bit too - ridiculous waste of money from the DVLA...

I'll bear that in mind if/when ever I'm doing bar work again, make some annoying Nordie go get the massive paper bit from his car or whatever :D

We've got a paper only licence with a photo stuck to it and laminated, it must be the easiest to fake/modify in the world.

I got asked for ID to buy deodorant in wilkinsons last year, I was also buying cushions and bedsheets. I had a row whith the woman about it and she threatened to have me chucked out. I had my driving license but I'm f***ed if I'm going to produce it for some jobsworth bint when there's no age restrictions on it. In fact that's pretty much what I said to her.

Probably mis-tagged on the system as containing butane (which has age limits on it), I would have got the manager and had a word with him about it.

Unless it did contain butane. I wouldn't smoke around anyone wearing it if it did....

Slightly off topic but I nipped into my local Sainsbury's to buy a pack of four beers and because it was busy I queued at the kiosk, where you buy cigarettes, do lottery etc. The sign clearly says 6 items maximum but when I get there the women says they can't sell alcohol from the kiosk. I said maybe they should have a notice up then, to which she points to a small obscure one that you would have to be on her side of the counter to see. I then had to queue for ages at the checkouts.

Whilst it is a Trading Standards recommendation that a photocard driving license (provisional or full) is accepted as proof of age, it's entirely up to the shop as to what they accept as proof of age - they're perfectly entitled only to accept those Citizencards that only about seven people in the country have if they want to.

Everyone leave my poppet alone, I've seen his pubes and although they are perfectly straight they are indeed his own.

Just been on my lunch at work and fancied a walk, walked to the CO-OP Hove park and found myself a little bargin 4 bottles of becks for £2.49, So i grab myself a 4 pack and procede to the till, as a few may no i dont look my age 21 but not much younger than 18 but expect to get ID, so it was no suprise when i was asked.
Once asked i got out my useall Id a provisnal driving Licence and was told thats not acceptable (not becuase of my shocking picture) as its not the one in there list and points to 5 different types of ID, 3 of which i have never heard of! i said its a valid ID and she refused to serve me so i asked to speak to the manager as i though she may of just misunderstood.
I Spoke to the manager who looked at the ID and said as it wasnt in this picture he wouldnt serve me! So i put it to him becuase i havnt passed my test im not allowed alchole! and that i can go to pretty much every bar/club in the uk and this be accepted!

Am i Wrong or are they just being complete fools!

:angry::angry::angry:

This happened to me at the same co-op, matey! They are 100% wrong on the law, but (legally) can refuse to serve anybody they like....stupid i know.

Write to their head office and complain.

You might get vouchers out of it!

Probably shouldn't suggest this but if it had been me I would have calmly placed my £2.50 on the counter and walked out with my paid for beer. You haven't stolen it or tried to avoid payment so they can't detain you for theft therefore anyone who lays hands on you is assaulting you. You haven't actually committed any offence since you are over 18 and entitled to purchase the beer and in any case if they did call the police and we bothered to turn up :jester: we would simply check your licence, verify your age and tell the poxy Co-op it was a civil matter.

Like most stores they probably have a non-confrontation policy anyway so no one will try and stop you from leaving the store apart from maybe the aged non english speaking albanian security guard who will rugby tackle you to the ground and zap you with an illegal stun gun before knifing you in the buttocks with a flick knife!
