CMS to Peterborough?

I'm a little worried about it. He's 30 with a year left on his contract. He'll be on a decent wage and his agent will no doubt be trying to get him more money and a reasonable extension (at least 2 years, I would guess 3).

I'm not convinced we will want to offer him that sort of deal, so maybe we'll look to recoup some money on him whilst we still can. I'm not sure how Peterborough would be able to afford his wages mind, as presumably he'd want to match his current guaranteed wage for the next 10 months.

It would be very disappointing to lose him at this stage but it wouldn't come as a total shock to me.

Interesting that Burke was quoted as saying it's nice to have the majority of business done before the end of the window?

Does that mean there is more to come in or go out?

If the club did suddenly bring in a big target man out of nowhere then it might suggest CMS would be a possible departure?

I still think though having spent the last year supporting him in getting fit it would seem pretty strange to now move him on, especially as he has started in a very promising fashion.

Suspect there is not much in this story, although I do find Burke's quote intriguing - the implication being that maybe not all transfer business is yet done!

Well there could be some additions to the U21 squad and I imagine one or two could leave either permanently or on loan. Surely Shamir Fenelon is available for loan now?

Married to Barry Fry's daughter, new born baby and out of contract at the end of the season. It certainly ticks all the boxes of a possible move. On the negative side, he would surely have to take a big pay cut and Posh seem to find strikers, not buy them....I for one hope he stays, he may go for nothing at the end of the season, but if he stays and scores 15 goals that help us get promoted, it will be worth it........Plus my little girl bought me a signed photo as an xmas present and he is her fav player!!!!!

You could do a three year search and you won't find any evidence of me slagging off CMS. I've always thought he has what it takes, played the right way in the right system.

I think the big question is why Poyet chose to spend money on a player who didn't fit his system. Poyet's signings tended to fit the system we played but with CMS it's a bit of a mystery as his thrives on teams getting the ball forward quickly.

Hopefully under Hyypia, he can prove he is good enough in the right system and earn a new deal. Would be a real shame to sell him when we're finally looking like playing to his strengths.

A £25m striker (or even a £50m striker would struggle if they had no service or support and left to be out-numbered by defenders with little to work with from the rest of the team (which is pretty much what CMS had when he first moved here) - he missed almost all of last season with an injury, but got 11 in 29 the season before prior to his injury and that was with the unsupportive, negative tactics of Poyet so give him some help, quicker attacking emphasis and a half decent supply and the goals will flow

He had Vicente, Barnes, Buckley and lualua for support in the first season (and the odd loan player). After that Ulloa didn't do too bad with 'no service'.
All this we never played to his strengths, what are they? He was given a ball to run onto against Bolton with only their sluggish centre back to compete with and he did nothing.
I like the bloke for his commitment and comes across as a nice bloke, but top end championship striker he is not (in my humble opinion of course).

Doesn't actually fit the profile of a Posh striker these days.

They tend to go for young strikers from the lower leagues & non league, lads with a point to prove, a long career ahead of them, & minimal wages.

That's not CMS these days.

He is in his last year, the wrong side of 30, and is a high earner.

He is 30, so not really the wrong or the right side at the moment.

You could look at it by thinking that we are only likely to get a very reduced fee for him if he only has a year left on his contract. £1m max if we're lucky?

I'm guessing he's one of our best paid players so if we free up his wages could we get a better player in today's depressed market for the same wages?

You mean the 2nd season?
Yeah buckley,lua lua and vicente were well fit and never injured

People conveniently forget that prior to his injury in that season he had reached double figures so it could be assumed he would have hit the 20 goals, which is the bench mark everybody is setting for any incoming striker

That would really make sense, although I'm not his greatest fan the team are now playing to his strengths finally after 3yrs and he looks much better for it and now on twatter rumours going round he is off to fat Baz, hope it is bull
