Didn't work out but there's no doubt that at the time we signed him he was a hot property that pretty much anyone would have wanted so that fee didn't look so stupid. He was on fire the previous season. I think what WAS stupid was signing a player that didn't fit into the style of play at all, and then making no attempt to tailor it to his strengths.

Exactly this, with bells.

This. Did seem like The Second Coming at the time, on account of the fee and his apparent goalscoring PROWESS..

We all - including, crucially, those responsible for the signing - seem to have overlooked the fact that the bloke scored a shitload of goals for a kick'n'rush Peterborough side that wouldn't have looked out of place in a junior school playground. Didn't their stats the close-season we signed CMS read something like: Goals For: 99. Goals Against: 98? Can't be arsed to look up the stats but it was something really rubbish like that.

Yeah, who would want to follow a team involved in nearly 200 goals in 46 games? Sounds awful.

When we signed CMS Mark Pougatch reported on it in amazement on 5Live, listing all the supposed bigger clubs who we'd beaten to his signiature.

I'd love to know how many CHAMPIONSHIP goals, per league starts, CMS scored in his P'boro Chamionship season combined with those in his 2 seasons with us prior to his March 2013 injury. Shirley they will be far superior than those for Murray and Ulloa.

They're far inferior, in fact:

CMS:

10 in 43 for Peterborough
9 in 45 for us
11 in 29 for us, then the injury.

So averaged 0.26 goals per game in the Championship.

Ulloa:

9 in 17
14 in 33

So averaged 0.46 goals per game

Murray:

6 in 37
30 in 42
8 in 18 for Reading
23 in 39 starts

67 in 137, so 0.49 goals per game.
