I'll be happy as all the other clappers when a classy, quick, proven goal scorer arrives.
But as we all know they cost money, BIG money, so forgive me for being a little skeptical about his imminent arrival.

In the last transfer window we did sign a classy, quick, proven goal scorer/forward who's apparently now worth £10m+
Hard to find and sometimes you end up with an Elvis but i'm surprised you're not more trusting of our scouts, manager to find another...

Posters should be looking up the other end of the pitch, that's where the team is currently relegation standard.

We was top scorers last season and have added a player who scored 30 goals in this league a few years ago. We need another, but we are okay there at the moment.

Now, had our defence been tighter last season....

Just because you keep saying something doesn't make it true. Basically, you are saying Baldock and Murray have a history of injuries so they will get injured and Hemed had no injuries last season so he is due one. Can you see how ridiculous a comment that is?

Of course he can. He loves generating discussions.

If selling clubs think we are desperate, it puts the price up. Stop panicking. I'm glad we have an experienced poker player for a chairman.

I am not saying they are perfect, although Baldock does have pace and we have plenty of pace on the wings, and I do think we'll get another striker. I am just saying that to call them relegation standard is ridiculous
I agree with you on that.

I'd say it's very unlikely to happen now, considering Blackburn have already sold Hanley and are about to sell Matt Kilgallon who both play CB & also that we supposedly have already had a bid for £2m for him rejected.

I would think that £2m possibly another 500k is the maximum for Duffy and if that is not accepted we will look at an old experienced centre back not in their Premiership plans like we did Upson obviously not him but somebody in the John Terry. Joelyn Lescott mould, nearing the end of their career at the top.

If you look at transfermarket.co.uk there is a list of players without contract of varying ability, value and age so if we can look at it I am sure our recruitment team can also and find the players who would fit into our squad.

Let's get Duffy in over the next 48 hours. £5m should do the trick. Proven player so not silly money for him either.

I have no idea whether 5 million is a reasonable fee for him - suspect not. I do share your frustrations, however, as most folk seem to, that we have not yet signed someone who is gong to have a huge impact, at the back and at the front, other than GM, who could well come good. Most folk on here seem to think that we need one more striker and one more CB to complement an already strong squad, if they all stay!
However, it is all well and good for we fans to appeal to TB to splash the cash, when he is already funding huge losses, by all accounts, and presumably he has funded the new stand at the training ground, either directly or indirectly, so he is continuing to help the club massively. Of course I want him to spend big to bring about promotion -just can't bring myself to appeal to him to do it as he has already done so much.

I would be happy to bring in an out of contract CB as 4th choice like Hangerland who left CPFC to play if needed to give the U23s more time to develop as Goldson did.

Going into the season with only one fit CB would be cavalier in the extreme. I expect us to have somebody in for Derby.

We have had plenty of time to sort this. We let Greer go months ago.

No. Not silly money for a 3rd or even 4th choice CB.

He wouldn't necessarily be 3rd or 4th choice. As I have continually said on other threads, during the course of a season, injuries and suspensions come into play, players lose form or need a rest. I am certain that Duffy would get plenty of game time.

In any case, who is to say that he wouldn't force himself ahead of Hunemaier, or even Goldson or Dunk in the pecking order in the months to come? Competition for places has to be a good thing to have in the squad..

Bruno, willing and able though he undoubtably is, is a right back, and not a natural central defender. We shouldn't be forced in to filling round holes with square pegs right at the beginning of a new season.

Apparently Bruno did well at CB against Lazio. Probably better he plays against Derby than a complete stranger who's hardly even met his team-mates. Do agree, though, that we need a direct replacement for Gordon Greer ASAP (unless, of course, CH thinks that young Hall is already up to being fourth CB).

I'd be quite happy if we still had Greer. Did a fine job when needed last term.

Guess he would only have got a 1 year contract and may have been offered a bit more security elsewhere. He was decent, I liked him.

..... This .....

On his day Dunk is one of the best in the league, but as last season showed, he also cost us a some very important points. I think the addition of a quality centre back to properly challenge Dunk would improve his game. At the moment his position is assured, we need every player to be looking over their shoulder ...
