The Toffees have also brought in Leeds goalkeeper Nigel Martyn on a permanent basis as Mark Pembridge leaves Goodison Park for Fulham in a £500,000 deal.
Leeds have bagged 24-year-old Marseille striker Cyril Chapuis on loan until the end of the season along with Brazil international defender Roque Junior from AC Milan.
Elsewhere, Sunderland's Michael Gray has joined Celtic on a four-month loan, Portsmouth have snapped up former Newcastle goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek and Spurs have sealed the loan transfer of Inter Milan's Stephane Dalmat.
Chelsea left it late before clinching their final summer signing on Sunday night, when Claude Makelele completed his £16m move from Real Madrid.
That deal takes their overall spending since Roman Abramovich took over to more than £111m.
