I agree with Easy 10. Butters was not able to rally the troops effectively in our relegation dogfight so I can't see how that would work 1 year on.

Oatway is captaincy material but especially after the injury there will be question marks about his form.

On the basis that your captain needs to be a first team regular and command respect McShane would have been a cert but next best is Hinsh.

We need to sign captaincy material. Dodd could have been that man but events have moved on.

What is the point of this?... the club is on record saying Charlie WILL get a new contract... and I can't see him giving it the big I am in negotiations...

So in that respect. How do you stand on having Beckham as England captain? As has been said there are 'different' kinds of captain.
Never been keen on Beckham as England captain - its always struck me as more of a marketing ploy, as he's of far more value to his sponsors as England Captain then he is just as Englands right-sided midfielder. Changing the England captain would, of course, involve a Big Decision - something that Sven will usually avoid at all costs if it involves upsetting someone.

In terms of the Albion, we have a lot of young players just starting out in their 1st team careers, and they need real guidance. The Beckham "leading by example" thing will only get you so far - I'd rather have a vocal captain out there who's not just wrapped up in his own game. Ideally we need a midfield general or a central defender with natural authority and leadership skills, to direct and encourage those around him. Sadly such players do not grow on trees. Oatways ok (in a limited way), but Cullip was an absolute collossus as a captain, and played a MASSIVE part in getting us out of the 4th and 3rd divisions. We have no-one at the club in his ilk, and the team is all the poorer for it.
