"Looking for a midfielder this summer, Ronny #Deila discussed with Steven #Alzate & would like to take the Colombian (who is not against) with him to #Clubbrugge . The Club, inclined to satisfy its coach, could move forward on this file at the end of the season."

i can't see Alzate getting much game time for us next season and we also have the return of Moder, and Kozlowski as a potential breakthrough player. This might work well for us and we would turn another profit on a player. Didn't we pay circa £250k for him from Leyton Orient?
As an aside, didn't we pay something like £8m for Kozlowski?

I think RDZ would really like him, after working with him for a short while. We are going to need somebody good enough on the ball to receive it from Steele on the del of our box, once Caicedo goes. Alzate has the ability, and awareness of space to do that stuff - not many do. (Ayari looks a very similar player, but is a couple of years behind Alzate).

To a point, but don’t agree but about awareness of space, that is the one area he needs to work on (remember Chelsea at home, when he was caught just outside our box and they scored or got a pen, can’t recall which). That seemed to be a frequent occurrence but higher up the pitch - always seemed to turn blindly.

Wasn’t it Ron Greenwood who would whistle, get all the players to shut their eyes and then recite what was around them? Bobby Moore excelled at it apparently, I think Caicedo would be excellent at that, less so Alzate.

I do feel Alzate could work under RdZ though but perhaps more advanced which is where he was playing in the U21s, when he first joined from Orient. Always looks good on the ball.

Think you could be right re Ayari.

Will trust the club and RDZ on this one, if he wants him then keep, if not cash in while he has value

Exactly. 5-10 million would be great if we have better options and contributing to the squad would be great too if RDZ rates him. My feeling is skillset wise he is perfectly suited, ability and confidence wise he might fall slightly short. Over to RDZ.

Think Alzate could be a decent squad player but he wants to play football and I think he’ll want to move on.

I like Alzate but he doesn’t have the physical presence that Moises has. Moises is very mobile, and just seems to muscle people off the ball (and never get muscled off himself). It’s why he’ll be so hard to replace. Fantastic technical ability AND great physical presence. Will be hard to find someone with both.

Seem to be a lot os interest in midfielders even with the two leaving I can't help but feel we are not keeping Alzate, shame though a very good player on his day.

thats all we can do really. i always thought he looked the part, bit raw, needing games and unfortunatly other outstanding players ahead of him.

He is exactly the type and quality of player we need back in the squad next season. We will need depth remember. The next step is to get close to two top half starting 11s. Then we will be able to compete in the Europa Cup and the EPL. If Mac Allister and Caicedo leave we don't just need to replace them but we need to get in two players who can rotate with the replacements.
