Closing Down Queens Road Store

I've only just noticed that the Queens Road Store is closing. I hope a new City Centre store is planned?

Albion should have a store in Churchill Square, Worthing, Hayward's Heath and Eastbourne to really build on the retail and commercial opportunities.

Have I missed something or will it just be at the Amex and online now?

However I would not be suprised if there is an agreement with next years shirt manufacturer to to sell Albion shirts through their authorised dealers or bespoke stores in the centre.

Bad move if they don't have a high street store in Brighton in my view. I come down by train once a month and nearly always pop into the shop on the way past or pop in with my son when we are in the city centre and spend cash. To jump on a 25 bus, spend 30 minutes to get there and 30 minutes back stops its being an impulse buy and tbh a balls ache to get to.

And as for sharing space in other stores, I much prefer going into a store where everything in there is to do with my team and not sharing shelf space with Chelsea, Man U and Arsenal shirts

Not enough people like you though. The Q.Road store has been losing money, hence the closure. I think we'll see similar van from around the stadium in town during the season, but if the shop costs more than it makes then it, unfortunately, needs to go.

I think there are 2 issues there though.

1. Sports Direct would want to heavily discount everything, so not great for business at the Amex.

2. Presence. As long as the store isn't losing stupid money then it is surely better for the club to have a high street presence.
We are supposed to be "Premier League Ready".
What kind of message are we sending out by closing the store?

Paul Barber said the Queens Road shop was losing money. The mobile van is going to be at Brighton station for matchdays and also is able to go around Sussex rather than just being a Brighton presence.

If they charged a more reasonable postage charge for online then I'd use that more but their postage costs are disgraceful so I don't. Sadly as a result they get far less money from me than they would otherwise.

Does irritate me when the only shirts available in Brighton sports shops are Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal. Would be a good move on the clubs part to get our shirts in these shops, in fact it should be law, you want a sports shop in town you stock the local clubs shirt.

I know it's not the same but the charity sports shop on George Street sells both new and second hand merchandise. Not the range the shop has but still a fair amount of stock.

The vast majority of people will shop at the Amex on a matchday.

The rest will just do it online. All the overheads will never justify keeping a city centre shop for the handful of people who can't shop online or at the Amex

Thing is, the high street shops are closing left right and centre. Take away the fact that it's BHA and in commercial terms you have a one off specialist shop with no chain to support failing branches. In terms of a high street shop it is never going to compete with internet sales and match day sales.

for the amount of fans in west sussex it is a shame there is no shop in say Worthing / Lancing / Littlehampton

Hopefully as mentioned the new deal means we can get stocked in sports shops on local high streets .

Here in Southampton, Saints have one in the West Quay shopping centre as well as the big one at St.Mary's.

It was on the cards the shop would close eventually because it was losing money , a remnant from the Withdean years (even though it moved from one side of the road to the other). Having a mobile van which can travel around Sussex is a sensible option compared to paying a sky high commercial rent in the centre of Brighton.
