The closing ceremony was a fantastic spectacle aided by Coldplay who were awesome as usual. Thank God we didn't have to endure Paul I'm so past it McCartney.

Coldplay bland ? No. The Scientist, bland ? are you f*ciing mad ?, Fix You, bland , er no and numerous other great songs. Always superb live and top musicians especially Jonny Buckland a brilliant guitarist and Chris Martin. I tend to say " ok, not my cup of tea but I can appreciate they are very good at what they do " but all you get on here is " they are shit ". NO, they are not shit, not by a long long way and just because they are popular does not default into automatically being shit as is so often the way on NSC. Everyone knew the ceremony FEATURED Coldplay, that was advertised for weeks so unless you were on the Moon during that time or a complete moron you should have know that and the crowd and competitors seemed to love the whole event. Still it does not stop a load of talentless keyboard warriors who couldn't even play the spoons coming on here and informing people that they are shit and are wrong in liking Coldplay. Same old, same old.

I'm not a Coldplay fan but I thought they put on a decent show. There was too much of them and not enough of anyone else though. Why not Def Leppard with the one armed drummer? Would have been very fitting! Even better, why not The Who with the skeletons of Keith Moon and John Entwhistle making a guest appearance?

Well I didn't know it was going to be SO Coldplay heavy, and it's irrelevant whether or not anyone likes them. I personally don't think a closing ceremony should just be a gig for one band with a couple of brief cameos thrown in. Becomes far too promotional for them and not the event itself

Spielberg has spoken-if we didn't like a f***ing Coldplay concert in place of a closing ceremony then we're 'talentless keyboard warriors'. You tend to say 'ok not your cup of tea'? What a load of bollocks.

Just far enough away from LDC
I would rather have had an hour of Coldplay than listen to the second song dirge from George Michael again.

Just my opinion like.

Don't think I called Coldply shit just bland (yes it is), radio friendly, non offensive music for the masses who like Radio 2 on in the morning. Its the kind of music your mum or gran likes nothing wrong with that unless you like your music to create movements rather than pander to the I Pod generations idea of a "great" band. I still obsolutely hate them but its all about opinions and I know I'm not alone in that thought

You most certainly aren't. Great Musicians no doubt plus Martin is a good singer. Likewise, I find them bland & dull to listen to. Very much so, music for the masses.

I believe the reason you hate them and others hate them is a really annoying form of musical snobbery. This really gets my goat. If they were some indie band from some small town up North and called the arse wipes or something and sold about 100 albums you would probably be raving about a song like The Scientist but as they are popular and large masses of the great unwashed love them you cannot bring yourself to come down to that level and therefore just go along with the lazy " they are shit " mantra.

or maybe people just don't like their music or sound?

just because someone doesn't like something it doesn't make them a bad person does it

They were a college indie band before they got all U2 ego maniacs lets churn out the stadium pleasers...oooo look my wrist band lights up in time with the music...They hit the jackpot with Yellow and stuck with that formula since. All very nice, my Mum likes it, BBC R2 love it, emotional musical montages lap it up...but that's the point, it is all a little bland and nice isn't it? Fix You, The Scientist, Nobody Said it Was Easy, Yellow - break them down and they're a fairly basic musical formula.

Personally, I'd have rathered listened to the para-orchestra play a bit more. Something a bit punk about taking classical music and sticking these new instruments and arrangements in. When they started I thought brilliant, Coldplay have stopped, and then Chris Martin sits cross legged in front of them and Coldplay is pretty much levelled over the top and I just thought that what a crock of shit.

No I wouldn't - I AM allowed an opinion and my opinion is that they're crap. Boring bland music by f***ing numbers bollocks that doesn't float my boat whatsoever.
You like 'em - fair enough
I don't - also fair enough
Why the entire night was devoted to this is completely beyond me but because you want to lick Chris Martin's backside doesn't mean I,or anyone else, has to do so !

Uncle,

Coldplay are dreadful. Really they are utter dross. I respect your opinion on most things (as I think you know) but I cannot agree with you that people dislike them because it is musical snobbery. People dislike them because they are turgid repetitive moaning rubbish.

The analogy comparing them to U2 is a good one. Both bands were once good. Both bands sold out entirely, regurgitate the same song in a different guise over and over again, and both bands should just simply f*** off.

I turned off the closing ceremony when they came on, much like many others. Its a shame as I enjoyed the closing ceremony of the main Olympics, but cannot stomach Coldplay at all.
