[Misc] Climate Change Hypocrisy

You do know you can vote by post, or proxy, from overseas? The world being the way it is in the 21st century you can do numerous things without being physically present; it’s quite amazing.

I love it how some people choose to respond with sarcasm, clearly I've managed to fathom the UK voting system and the need, or not, to be resident, my point was that Mr Martin is often photographed in the UK, quoting about issues living here in the UK and UK politics generally, I stated that "maybe" he shares his resident status with the UK.

I am merely at odds with people defending his stance; I just happen to find it hypocritical but then also think Star Wars is hugely over rated and we'll finish in the Top Ten, so there's another couple of points to add to the list of sarcastic opportunity.

Saw some Australian climate change sceptics being interviewed with a bushfire blazing on the far horizon. They claimed this was exactly the same as the last few decades. When presented with evidence that this year’s fires started much earlier, lasted much longer and covering far more ground and burning with more intensity than ever before, they simply shrugged and maintained that they “don’t buy it”.

Every state in Australia has bush fires. The country is literally burning. These people are standing in front of a fire and still “don’t buy it”.

This planet is ****ed.

To be fair, individual, severe weather events aren't necessarily evidence for x theory about climate change.

On the other hand, if the XR/death cult/Greta worshipper's predictions are proved to be vaguely accurate, it might be time we started building a huge sea wall around GB (get the EU to pay for it) ...excluding Scotland obviously and possibly Norfolk/Suffolk whose six-fingered inhabitants should evolve webbed hands quite quickly.

Interesting article from the Guardian of 20 years ago about how climate change will affect people in 2020.

Erm... Where were you this summer?!

And in South East USA, as referenced in the article:

I can see why some companies and politicians espouse climate change denial. They absolutely know full well man made climate change is pushing us towards disaster but they want to make their millions before it all goes sideways.

But why does the average man on the street deny it? They actually believe it’s not happening? Surely they can’t be that naive? Surely? They have nothing to gain and so much to lose.
I can only surmise that they are bricking it and too paralysed with fear to acknowledge it and start to do something about it?

Many people are very attached to their worldviews. Might that be the answer?

Depends which airline, KLM seem to be trying hard

https://www.airfranceklm.com/en/sustainable-biofuels

Won't last long when they realise how expensive biofuels get.

As are EasyJet.

We are indeed, more stuff in the pipeline too.

No, why? Unless, of course, you feel that you'd wish to make that personal sacrifice to support a cause you believe in, personally I wouldn't.

Not sure how it's any different to Coldplay holding back from using flights for its tours and Martin taking a personal flight.

He is a cock though

Nah, you're fine. I couldn't give a toss about the environment and I've done nothing to reduce my carbon footprint or be sustainable but I don't work for an airline.

So that evens things out right?

Happy to jump on the Chris Martin is a prick bandwagon though.

I'm not disputing Martin being a prick. Overrated singer too.

Can you let me know the score on cheap flights for "mates" before I answer that?

Look for midweek, midday flights. Sometimes can be cheaper than staff travel..

There is far more fuel for the fires this year. Why is that? Because the climate change lobby have objected to many controlled burns in recent years due to carbon emissions. I do not have the answer as I am not a scientist and have only been here for a couple of years. But you need to get both sides of the story, the BBC are making this out to be a far bigger issue than it is seen to be actually in Australia, seems it suits their current narrative.

Totally concede that if the objections have resulted in burning bans then a build up of material would add to the ferocity. I think the concern is that the fires have started so early, coinciding with an overall rise in temperature.

As usual I would imagine it’s a combination of factors and not one, clear cut answer.

Too much energy wasted on issues you have zero control of, there is no point in worrying.

Blimey, us being civil.

This morning the temp here in Melbourne is 15C, and expected to only rise to 21C. BBC news website still saying 40C across all of Aus yesterday, not the full story.

As with a PR conscious celebrities they choose when and how to try to place themselves as the moral leaders of life's main issues, ensuring that their Twitter feeds, instasnaps etc show them as "doing the right thing", that is until the family fancy a trip to Colorado for a bit of Skiing, because you couldn't possibly go to Scotland, could you?

If he has pissed off somewhere warm for a month he has offset his own carbon of flying by not having the heating on.
