So what should happen?

In my view, unless a suspect/defendant is dangerous or there is a powerful reason for revealing their identity it should be kept secret until they are found guilty.

They should be given the same protection rape victims are given.

Otherwise the maxim "innocent until proven guilty" is completely worthless.

He has been arrested. Back in April a 73 year old man was arrested in North London and questioned about historical abuse allegations. It didn't take a lot of nouse to discover which 73 year old man living in North London was being referred to.

Edit to add link to story from back then

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2014/04/08/operation-yewtree-arrest_n_5110022.html

I hope he is innocent, I thought in this country it was innocent until proven guilty?

Trouble is mud sticks, very unfair he has been named, when he cannot defend himself, a sad situation.

Police aren't even waiting to arrest someone to name them any more?

How is this justice?

If he's innocent they've just trashed his reputation built up over 50 years in one morning.

Innocent until proven guilty is clearly a thing of the past. Especially on here! (Some funny comments though :))

One of the mainstays of the British legal system is that justice should be seen to be done - how can this be possible where those charged with an offence are granted anonymity? - Secrecy as well as breaching this maxim can lead to justice not being done.

In addition there have been numerous instances where pre-arrest/pre-trial publicity has led to additional evidence coming to light that has either helped convict or exonerate the accused.

This is all true.

But in certain controversial cases I'm sure pre trial publicity must make getting a fair trial virtually impossible.

What do they expect to find 20+ years after the alleged offense, by searching one of his residences without searching any others or questioning him?

This,,,1985 apparently, that's 29 years ago, what do they expect to find??? So why release it to the press, when they know what a shite storm it will cause. Makes you wonder if it's just the tip of the iceberg.

Sex allegations, and accusations,
When I tell everyone it that wasn't me,
Sex allegations, and recriminations,
I want the world to know I'm not kitty.

But what if he is innocent?

In my opinion no one should be named and speculated on unless proven, the accuser could be in it for all sorts of reasons including money. If it is proven that is a different thing.

Being accused and named could affect anyone in so many ways / ruin careers / ruin relationships / suicide - just unfair until it is proved surely?

(I smiled at some of the songs)

There are some disgusting people on this thread who I would NOT want to be sitting next to at the Amex nor would I want to employ them or befriend them in any way. Innocent until proven guilty. Some of you should be ashamed about your comments and moderators should have been a lot harsher. Bloody idiots.

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
I listen to everyone but sending an infraction without having the decently to PM me and explain in an adult way to explain the repucasions then I think it's immature.

We're all Brighton fans and have opinions and air our views whether rightly or wrongly but I'd expect more courtesy than a straight infraction.

The simple way to avoid an infraction is to not post anything worthy of an infraction.

Generally, one will respond to a complaint when it is too late for the person to edit. The infraction reveals the reason. If you have an issue, then send a PM. One does not always have time to write to each individual person.

It's really not a big deal, getting an infraction, is it?

Kitty maybe loveable to you and your missus but you should think about Elm Guest house and how evil the house of fun was. Do you like Michael Jackson as well?

The press will, for months, have been watching every property of every celebrity that has been whispered about relating to this. That's how the press knows, they're already there.
