I want to put together a classic collection of songs and want your suggestions,
Obviously thinking classical & operatic , the choice is vast but I'm looking for 20 or so quality songs to put together for a compilation ,

Time to say goodbye (no 1 operatic)
Nessun dorma
Habanera (from Carmel )

Leave the rest to your input

Think you'll struggle to find the opera "Time to Say Goodbye" comes from!!!!! It is termed, I believe, a "cross-over" song.

Just go for the Planets Suite for a start. Then try listening to Radio 3 and see what takes your fancy.

Anything by Gustav Holst will be an excellent recommendation

Some of my favorite classical songs are:
An American Elegy - Frank Ticheli
1st Suite - Gustav Holst
Pictures at an exhibition - Mussorgsky

And 'La mer' composed whilst staying in The Grand Hotel, Eastbourne ..... Hence Debussy being a name on the #14 bus

personally I would find it very difficult to chose tracks.

If you want some fabulous music, firstly try Faure's Requiem, then one piece of music everyone should have in their music collection Mozart's Requiem and finally for sheer beauty, The Lark Ascending by Vaughn Williams.

I ahve sung many oratorio works and certainly Bach and Handel are my favourite, although bloody diffucult to sing.

If you are after something light and jolly, how about coming along to St Bartholemews on the 26th may for our Brighton Fringe Festival concert for the Queen's Jubilee.

Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert

It doesnt last that long and has some lovelly music.

Butterworth - "Banks of Green Willow". It sums up the fantastic English countryside brilliantly.

1812 by Tchaikovsky. Spine tingling. Tells the story of Battle of Moscow emotionally.

Dvovak - New World Symphony
Vaughan-Williams - Fantasia OR The Lark Ascending
Elgar - Nimrod of Enigma Variations

Excellent.

I would add Barber's Adagio for Strings despite it being done to death in movies.
I also love Copland, probably El Salon Mexico for a bit more drama.

Ombre Mei Fu - Handel.
The Flower Duet - Lakme.
Nulla In Mundo Pax - Vivaldi.
Lacrimosa - Mozart.
The music from the Blood Doner TV ad, I don't know who wrote it.
Hymn - Karl Jenkins.
These are a few of my favourites, have a listen and see what you think.???
