That's another question: has anyone been at a gig that appeared on a live album?

I was at a Sussex Uni Can gig that appeared on the Can Live album (well, two tracks did). Anyone been there for an entire live album?

Yes, Killing Joke in London a few years ago. My ex wife was at Altamont! I went to the Live Dates gig by Wishbone Ash at the Dome, but the buggers put the Croydon Fairfields Hall version on the album. FFS. I'm in the crowd in the vids of the Comsat Ange's reunion gif in Sheffield (on youtube) if that counts (it doesn't, I realise).

No Sleep...of course. Weird in that it's a bunch of separate recordings none of which are from Hammersmith. Maybe that's the point?

Also, It's Alive by The Ramones.
Leeds and Newcastle so hence the 'til Hammersmith as it being the final date of the tour.

A few rock classics already mentioned - UFO, Scorpions, AC/DC. I'd also add Kiss Alive 4 - not one for the purists but I think the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra add great depth to some of the Kiss classics.

For me though one of the best live albums is Alchemy Live by Dire Straits. Although never a great fan of their studio albums, this shows their talent just before Brothers In Arms sent them into the mainstream with this track being my favourite:

One that probably nobody has heard of is Live Live by Sister Hazel.

Yep, Mark Eitzel 'Songs Of Love' recorded at The Borderline in 91. A mighty fine gig and album and Tidersticks Live at Bloomsbury Theatre which was/is magnificent.

Really? I have the album and it's never jumped out at me as a bad mix. I bought it in the 80s so it's not remastered or anything. Mind you, I've not listened to it in decades so maybe it does sound shit today?

Just googled it - I had a copy as a kid and always thought it sounded odd. A bit like a bootleg.

They mixed it themselves and never liked it.

It isn't one concert either and it's taken from a few.

I've been listening to Cheap Trick's Budokan live album this morning. Arguably one of the greatest live albums out there...by arguably the original "we're big in Japan" band.

Over to you.

I've got that in luminous yellow vinyl.

Brilliant album.

Same here, the days when you sent a SAE and a cheque to the box office! I was into rock and metal in those days and literally saw every middle to main band of those times. In Hammersmith I remember the Clarendon and Palais as well as the all-seated Odeon. Happy days and it started, and cemented, a love of live music I still have.

Many an hour spent trying to call Stargreen ticket agency for gig tickets while I was supposed to be working.

To make this more eclectic:
'Otis Redding Live In Europe'.
One of my key introductions to soul music.

Then there was Geno Washington's 'Hand Clapping, Foot Stomping........etc'.

I bought this on vinyl the week it came out. I bought it on CD a couple of years ago, and ever since Spoonful has probably been the most played track on my car stereo. Inspired and inspiring musicianship. Three top musicians at the top of their game.

Man - but at the time a boy! It was extraordinary. I remember being in Brighton that day and popping by the Dome Box Office and picking up two tickets - imagine doing that today. It was a time when £5 would buy you a ticket to see some of the greatest bands in the world - I don't think we really appreciated how lucky we were. 8:30 remains a regular listen for me although my favourite track, Birdland, was apparently recorded in the studio because someone copied over the original live tapes! But listen to those bass harmonics.....I've been playing nearly 40 years and I still can't find those notes on a fretboard!

It would absolutely definitely be one of my desert island discs if I ever had to choose the 8.
