Stone Roses is definitely in my top ten albums of all time, and also the only one I still listen to out of those three, although I'm always happy to hear "Movin' On Up". Not as happy as I am to hear "Velocity Girl" mind - when someone starts a C86 thread, I'll be all over that like a rash....

C86, now you're talking.

At the time I prefered screamadelica but I feel Stone Roses has stood the tests of time better and I still enjoy that now whereas I don't listen to either of the other two much anymore.

I think you've called this spot on, my thoughts too. It took me a bit of time to appreciate just how good the Roses are/were whereas the other two were instant love affairs with Screamadelica having a profound effect on me (I would have done the Screamadelica gig at the Centre a few years back but it was the same night we beat Daggers at Withdean to win the league so it was a no-brainer). But as you say, the Roses is the one that everyone will always remember.

This thread inspired me to listen to some of the other baggie-era albums: Charlatans - Some Friendly, Inspirals - Life, Northside - Chicken Rhythms, Flowered Up - A Life with Brian. I'd say that the Flowered Up album is about the pick of that bunch as having stood the test of time. That Northside album is terrible. I didn't even bother with Spartacus by the Farm.

Ah, Therese by The Bodines. Pop perfection...blimey, 26 years ago. The Primitives at Brighton Poly in '87. Feeling very old now. I agree that Bummed is the best Mondays album - Wrote For Luck is immense. Far, far better than the remix.

Always thought Bobby Gillespie was by far the weakest link in Primal Scream, hackneyed frontman with no natural stage presence or attitude IMHO, so its down to a choice of two. Of which I go Happy Mondays on account of a coachcrash of a band managed to hold it together enough to create a classic sound. Stone Roses just seemed to emerge TOO perfectly pre-formed. Probably doing them a massive disservice tho eh?

You might be interested in reading a biography or two. They had a very very hard road and much bad luck before creating that album. This is without even mentioning the disasters that cut them down in their prime.

agreed. squirrel was their nickname for Bez's mum apparently.

Squirrel was their nickname for Paul Davis the keyboard players mum.

Bummed is the best mondays album as they were still creating as a band then.

Pills n thrills is very Oakenfold and Osborne. Could say similar about Screamadelica being very Weatherall.

I would go for the roses and remember that when it came out it didnt sell dick for about 4 months then went through the roof. Remember them having to pull dates because they hadnt sold any tickets or move to smaller venues.
