I've gone off Clarkson nowadays. He just seems to say things without any sort of backing or evidence behind them. Just says them to get a reaction, but rarely argues why.

Then again, I don't read much of what he says so I may be wrong, but that's my impression.

Because it also reflects a view of a fair amount of people I know and also do business with. Granted I am a certain age and probably a social group but it seems that so many people are feeling down about the way things are at the moment.

I dont think you are having a go by the way. But I think the country is in a really shit state at the moment.

Its true, almost everyone I know thinks the country is in a shit state right now. However we all differ in our reasons for thinking its shit. I think its shit that noone is doing anything about global warming and the environment is f***ed, Clarkson wants to drive his gas-guzzlers everywhere. Some want more crackdowns on terrorist suspects, other rail against the police state. And so on.

Why are we all so angry? Is it just the media? Recession? Our society isn't a happy place right now

Not a happy place and I fear it's going to get a hell of a lot worse when the realisation hits us to what financial state our country is really in. Think it could all kick off when rates start going up drastically, unemployment goes nuts, we all get taxed till we bleed (well, those that are left anyway) and the next elected goverment refuses to grow a set of balls to make the big decisions that will be needed because they may offend a minority.

I think a society that thinks Top Gear is the high water mark of entertainment, and does not generally despise its cntish presenters, is completely f***ed.

Snap.

The three smug twerps stand around looking all smug while a bunch of microwave dinner-eating sycophants lurk in the background drooling and lapping up their every word.

"Yes, that car's a bit gay, Hamster."

"Yes, Jeremy. Can I borrow a stepladder and a pair tweezers to get in your pants."

Well, I watch it as a form of light entertainment on a Sunday night.
Is it the Bolshoi Ballet ? Well, no. But its moderately amusing if you're not determined to get angry about everything. Top Gear is also one of the BBC's top worldwide television exports, so its clearly not just OUR society that is so monumentally and fatally fractured by this programme.
