Not sure if he on tonights panel,but 31yo Burnley player Clarke Carlisle is set to appear on BBC,s Question Time. Well if so he can't be any worse than the usual rabble.

Always remember Galloway when he went up in front of the Senate (?) must be 4/5 years ago to defend himself and not have some legal mouthpiece do it for him over that 'cash/food for oil' (?) saga. To be honest it was entertaining and watchable T/V.

Hughes and the Tory girl are also strange bedfellows.

The conservative minister was the only one I couldn't name (Just pressed I, apparently she is Caroline Spelman).

Getting back to Carlisle. Yep, he's articultate but I get the impression he's reading his answers out.(Didn't Albion fans give him a hard time for his drinking at Loftus Road a few years back?)

Why is it surprising a footballer earning about 10k per week is right wing?

Exactly, and explained his reasons why...he sounds like a fairly typical Liberal to me...and yeah, it takes one to know one!

The best bit for me was Campbell playing a very straight bat to the crap that Galloway threw at him, didn't rise to it and made him look pretty stupid...though he didn't need too much help in that respect!

I'm not sure I would be inclined to agree that Carlisle is reading his answers out. He is at a disadvantage in that he has two jobs at the moment that do not really touch on politics and current affairs, so I would imagine he has made some extensive notes as opposed to reading out answers.

I don't think you could call him right wing, per se. Would wanting GPs to make decisions about their area or wanting an improvement on means testing EMA etc really qualify him as being right wing? I'd say he was very practical and sensible with his ideas.

Though Carlisle did OK -nothing embarrassing but not a disaster either.

Very good viewing all round I thought.

Alistair Campbell still spins for his life on the issue of Iraq (he has to now, he's in far too deep on the big lie) but Galloway just knows where the weak points are in his argument and cuts through all the bulls**t every time.

I wasn't too impressed with Dimbleby last night. Galloway had just mopped up in his first Iraq answer, accusing the inquiry among other things of being stuffed with "establishment stooges", and Dimbleby immediately cut him right down with an old half-quote used out of its proper context. He also didn't stop Campbell interrupting everyone all night. A New Labour stooge indeed.

But as far as Clarke Carlisle goes, I thought he came over as what he is these days, a likeable, intelligent, ordinary family man. And there is a slot for someone like that on QT who is not a politician, whether they be footballer, comedian, journalist, whatever.

I thought Carlisle was out of his depth from what little I saw and I base this on the response about NHS. The question related to the reforms proposed whereby GPs control the budget. Carlisle just went on about flu vaccines suggesting it would be better if GPs could do the ordering as they new their patients. Well, it was the GPs that did the ordering and that is why it is now being suggested that the ordering of vaccines is done centrally by the Dept of Health. Perhaps and indication of what is to come when the GPs have full control.

Thought he did very well especially when he was competing for air time with the joke that is Galloway. Made some very good points and the crowd agreed with him judging by the reaction he got after every point he made.
