Claridge Sacked

That just doesn't make sense. He can't be sacked just for that. They were phenomenal last season.

Okay, so they have 'missed out' on £5k, but paying up his contract would be in the region of £200k, and there is simply no way Weymouth have that money. The club MUST have grounds for a summary dismissal, which would avoid the need to pay up his contract.

They were phenomenal last season, but only until January. Having been about 8 points clear of Crawley at that time they fell away to finished 12 points behind them.

His contract was cancelled by "mutual consent". A compensation fee was agreed between both parties following discussions last night.

We will see on Tuesday if Phillips and co are good or not. Many of them though Claridge brought to Weymouth for good money, these players should hang thier heads in shame for under-performing so badly they got Steve the sack.Ithink many in our league are bigtime Charlies who like the big money but dont want to put it in on a rainy Tuesday night infront of 300 people.

I agree entirely. Weymouth have too many ex-league players who think they just have to turn up.

Somehow I don't think we will be seeing at repeat of last seasons 13 goal spectacle!?

Well we are more than capable of letting in the same 8 goals:lolol: :shootself !!
David Lee who played for you played for Thurrock(i think)against us and he was shit,so bad that he stunk the place out !
Ex pros should be that(pro in all they do) not money grabbing wasters,i would rather have a good youth player giving 110% rather than someone who thinks he doesnt have to run anymore.
Any chance of Gary Hart now he is not getting in the side regularly,i used to think he was the biz when i regularly watched the Albion and i would love to see him in a Lewes shirt.

Just noticed that Shaun Wilkinson plays for Weymouth. He started a few games for us 2 years ago when Hinshelwood was in charge. Weymouth fans seem to think that he's utter gash and is the epitome of a over-paid former pro player. Scary to think that this time 2 years ago he was almost an integral part of the team. I'll see what he's like when I go to the Pan next Tuesday.

Claridge was probably given the boot for being such a scruffy bugger. See him on Meridien ? Even in a suit he looked like a sack of old rags outside a charity shop. On the pitch he'd have his shirt hanging out, socks round his ankles, hair all over the place, shambling around like some homeless drifter.

Get a haircut, smarten yerself up and get a job, you mop-headed layabout.

The Weymouth Chairman's comments, if anyone is interested:

"I will keep this to the minimum for now.
After Tuesdays match I, together with the board, decided to speak to Steve about our form, results and future prospects. At this meeting it was agreed that we could not move forward in the current way and further agreed that it was time for Steve and the club part company.

The board met again with Steve yesterday and agreed a deal to cancel his contract (by mutual consent). Steve by the way had a players contract (not a Managers Contract) and it was agreed by all concerned that his 5 year playing contract could not be fulfilled, by either side, especially when you consider his ongoing hip problem.

In return for a lump sum payment Steve has now left the club. However, because this transaction was so smooth Steve has agreed to help the club place a few players with other clubs (or at least try) as a show of goodwill to me and the club.

There was not, on Tuesday, or at any time, either a bust-up or even raised voices between me, the Board and Steve. As far as I am concerned we all worked together in the best of spirits.

As the 80% sharholder, and ultimately the only person needed to make this decision, I, working to the best interests of the club, decided (with the full support of all Board members) that we need to take a long hard look at where we are, and, still with a play-off place in mind, that sooner rather than later was the time to take this action.I have to say I am not a person to sit on the fence and wait.

With still only 13 games played - there is time. If I had waited time would be slipping away.

Steve has been very helpful in concluding his deal. He has been payed a substansial sum and should be happy.

Looking forward - I/we do not have a particular person in mind for the job, however, we will be looking for a Head Coach rather than a Manager, who must have proven ability at our level or above. Whilst we look for this person I have handed the team managment over to a great team of guys.Matthew Magowan will head up the team with Gary Borthwick, John Waldock and paul Buckle to assist.

Dont be too unhappy about this. I believe we have players who are good enough to take us to where we all want to be.With a bit of team spirit we can come through this.

I also wish to state here that - we have a great crop of youngsters around right now and their path to the top has just been widened....

Thank you all for your support and here's to the future"

I was at Hereford and nearly every game that year, non league now has also Barnet,Carlise etc been to both. This thread i felt was about Claridge, non league is still football and to me your tone is slightly irrelevant. We at Lewes were on the march for Falmer and this site is so good that we want to enjoy it:clap:

I'm a have held a Brighton season ticket for the last 15 years, but just happen to be a Weymouth fan as well.

At least we are discussing a football related issue, whilst 60% of the threads on here are not. Anyway Claridge will be playing for Brighton before the year is out.:p
