Last night on ITV Steve Claridge said that for Nathan Jones' challenge he should have been banned for the rest of the season!Do you agree or was Steve being a bit harsh?

He also said that you don't see too many tackles like that nowadays which i strongly disagree with!

it was proper wrong. He'll get a fine on top I should imagine, but he was very lucky not to destroy that bloke.....no need.

Due to the fact he didn't go through with the challenge and missed the blokes foot completely, i come to the conclusion that Steve Claridge is in fact, a ****.

At the foot of the downs
its a tricky one this, i'm not to sure he deserved anything really, he didn't make contact you could see that from the other camera angle, As the BR player didn't move until Jones' foot had hit the floor I i reckon Jones may ahve missed on purpose kinda reaslised wht he was diong half way through and bailed out. If thats the case there was no intent either so no card should have been shown, but its tricky coz he did the stamping motion, but no one apart form Jones' knows what he was thinking.

3 match ban and best forgotton, I reckon

I think Jonah was extremely lucky not to connect fully, it was potentially a very messy career ending challenge and if it had been I think a season ban and a court case would have been justified

Lucky boy

Re Claridge's comments I guess he was thinking of it as a player (and one who didn't wear his shin pads properly)

The intent was there and I just hope Jones missed deliberately as if he'd connected he would of caused a serious injury. He had just had a blatent penalty turned town but he completely lost his cool in a style I've never seen him do before.

Even though Jones didn't make contact apart from with his back when he turned round at the end, the intent was clearly there.

It wasn't so much a jump tackle as a stamp tackle - a potential leg-breaker if he'd caught him full on. But there's plenty of bad tackles that are made every week up and down the country - a 3 match ban will be an appropriate sanction.

IMHO Claridge was fairly even-handed with Jones - he said that his penalty appeal a couple of minutes earlier was "a stone-wall certainty" and had noticed his work-rate and productivity down the left. He also sang Chris McPhee's praises for the goal and said he could play a lot higher in due time. I don't think there's any anti-Albion agendas with Claridge - he was just giving his opinion, as we all can and do about incidents that happen in football.

Did Keane get a season ban for the Inge-Haaland challenge?
NO!
So why should Claridge suggest that a tackle that didn't cause any injury to the other player deserves more than Keano's near career ender?
Clearly Claridge has made one too many headers in his career and has become mentally defective:dunce:

The bloke went down like a WWE wrestler! Complete tart! Jonah barely brushed him! Claridge is out of order, i wonder if he'd have said that if Dennis Wise had commited a similar offence while they both at Millwall?

The intent was their - Jonah was wound up about the penalty incident seconds before. He wanted to do damage. If he had connected then it would of been a career ending injury.
3 match ban but a hefty fine should be applied too.
Lets hope we can 'stamp' out this kind of tackle.

Sorry, but Jonesy was out of order.

The intent was there, even though he deliberately missed. The nanosecond he started his action, he knew he had done wrong. By that time, it as too late. Yes, the Rovers bloke was a tart, but he probably shat himself when he saw the boot coming down.

3 match ban, definitely. SC will be down on him like a ton of bricks today, and probably fine him. Wouldn't like to be in his shoes this morning.

If he did that during a really important game, we would be screaming that he was letting the team down. As it was, it was only Bristol Rovers, and we won 1-0, and got away with it.

Claridge's comments were a bit OTT, and it doesn't matter who made the tackle - whether it was someone like Wise or Savage, or Jones himself - it was tackle way out of proportion from what we expect of a Brighton player.

If a Rovers player had done that to one of our lot, we would be screaming blue murder, whether he missed or not.

Claridge was well OTT. 3 games is long enough. Jones was wound up after not getting the penalty, was being given grief by the local fans and had just lost the ball. He then lost his head. It was a bad challenge and if he had of connected it probably would have broken the chaps leg, but he missed the guy so chill-out you pompey scum.

Haven't seen the challenge, but it would have to be pretty grotesque for Claridge to be right.
