I couldn't bring myself to do this, though we were in the East & many around us did. TBH you will probably see this season something like:

"Coming off, Raheem Sterling"

West Upper: "Whoooo?"
North Stand: "Booo. W-ker W-ker"
South Stand: "Get off! Get a fing move on"
East Lower: loud ripple of applause
East Upper: "Stephens has been terrible again"
West Lower: "What's the score at Twickers Ferdy?"

Okay so what is the level when this should happen?
Today was ok because it was a friendly. The other acceptable circumstance is when the game is nearly over and we're clearly going to win. Otherwise it's unacceptable.

Yes today was a friendly. Didn't stop one of their players going right through Solly though.

Remember Liverpool at home when Gerrard was clapped. Personally I was fine with that as he was a decent English player. I didn't clap but I could understand why others might.

He has less Premier League medals than Luke Chadwick, so he's not getting a clap from me.

Friendly match. Friendly behaviour.

This. Plus I have been watching Atleti for nearly all their home games last season. I really do not have an issue with applauding another player if he scores a spectacular goal or has an amazing performance, sometimes you just have to appreciate fantastic play or an absolute talent.

FFS this was Atletico Madrid, and we're talking about Torres and Griezman. I clapped them both off. It was pretty amazing the club managed to attract this calibre of team for a friendly, and great that both the major stars played almost the entire game. Why not acknowledge that?

All in all, a great day out

To be honest if some fans showed some respect to world class players from a top Spanish team, fair play I hope the Spanish fans and players felt welcome today.

Much better than the disrespect and harsh treatment the tinpot Spanish outfit Girona gave our fans last week.

I clapped both players off, but would not have done so at an competitive match. It was a friendly after all.

I had just assumed that alot of regulars weren't there and were replaced by neutrals, or those late to the party. Didn't bother me as it was a friendly.

Would definitely be sat there with my head in my hands if it happens at a league game, which I don't think it will.

Mabe it was because it was A FRIENDLY MATCH and Athletico Madrid are not going to be competing with us for anything this season? Very different from a league match, don't you think? Pretty blinding obvious in my mind.

The main thing must be that the Albion players do not give too much respect to the opposition but get stuck in.
As for clapping opposition players other than going off on a stretcher I'm struggling to recall when I last did that. However I think it may have been Bobby Charlton at the Goldstone.
