I believe you. I never said they did, in your lifetime. However if you are over say 60. I'd say you have a selective memory.
So you're trying to tell me that 50 odd years ago "soccer" was in general usage amongst working class football fans and gradually fell into decline due to metrosexuals (a phenomenon that didn't even exist until recently)trying to disguise their middle class credentials ?? Yeah right........

...what you should have stated was...
When the away following is announced every brain-dead, dickhead of a Brighton fan should stand up and sing, " who the f........ hell are you"
Me?.....l'll give that a miss, you moron.
I used to prefer booing and giving the:wanker: but hey we can't all be boring like you
regards
DR

No I'm not trying to tell you that. The word tended to be used less in any event but was regarded with distain in more recent decades. As far as I'm aware, the likes of Billy Wright had no problem with their Soccer Albums being called so and the like together with say The Shoot Soccer Quiz book did not put people off buying the same. I was going to mention David Mellor's Red Hot Soccer chat but he might be an unreliable witness so to speak. Believe what you like mate anyway.

I've NEVER known "soccer" to be commonly used by football fans , is this you ??

:lolol:
a corporate he weren't but highly hilarious all the same,

hardly go myself these days...this is partly due to the rise of the corporate fan and the way you go about getting tickets etc etc.
much preferred handing over my money at the turnstiles and the do as you like attitude rather than sitting down malarky and doing as you are told.

Its truly embarrassing verging on the cringeworthy.

This happy clappy mentality is part of the reason why Hyypia is still at the helm. Every other championship side would be baying for blood by now on match-days. We're too bloody nice and at best it's disconcerting

Sadly, so true.

Yes, remember where we were in '97 but not at the expense of where we want to be. There needs to be some ruthlessness at The Albion or seasons like this one will become our norm.

Yeah thats right mate I mean if we start slagging off and threatening the away supporters it will be far less embarrassing and we'll start winning again FACT! It's like Black Friday. I saw what I wanted and anyone who got in my way got a smack. That's what we need more of at the Albion. People will respect us big time!

Congratulations for completely misunderstanding what I said. You're not a cop are you?

At no point have I advocated 'slagging off and threatening' visiting fans. Point out where it could be remotely mistaken for that? I do hate the happy clappy, Smashy and Nicey mentality that prevails at the moment and allows mediocrity to be acceptable. You might be happy with it, including applauding football fans for following their team. They really don't need you clapping them to do that, for most it's what they want to do on match-days.

The ruthlessness I was referring to was in the footballing sense, more specifically aimed at upper management for when things are going wrong. Action before it is too late comes to mind.

I really think you're more suited to hockey, you dont really 'get' football fans , in a nutshell I'd say you're a 'guy' as opposed to a 'bloke'.
