No.
10% is not 1.5p....a 10% rise on current tax levels might be.......but thats not what was said.

Struggling to understand what on Earth you're talking about.

10% increase in Cider Tax (10% increase on the current duty, not RRP of the product) equates to around 1.3-1.5p a pint.

Not quite sure what you're getting confused about!

Nevermind haha!
Someone just said 10% on cider not 10% rise in current cider tax.

Blah blah semantics.....we shall just leave it on the shelf to get dusty now.

you can buy cheap good quality wine
you can buy cheap good quality cider
you can buy cheap good quality ale

why punish people?? i'm not an alcoholic, but it seems like a stupid thing to do. If you want to punish alcoholics youths that drink lambrini and stella then just say it. but I think a call is in order to the wurzels to set up a protest

Did anybody else listen to radio 5live this morning? They were all completely up-in-arms about the increase in tax on cider. They even had one of the Wurzels on the phone FFS! Seemingly no-one realised that the total effect of this is a 5p rise PER LITRE (according to table A10 in the budget).

isnt there two seperate issues, one is a minor increase on ordinary cider, the other a significant change with high strength cider being put into the same bracket as wine (which im surprised it isnt anyway)?

eitherway, it will do f*** all to stop the kids drinking it, if a litre is £1, it goes up 10% (or what ever), how many kids will find £1.10 suddenly unaffordable? its a nothing gesture, thats just pissed off the entire west country.

Yup a lot of people still haven't read the facts of the matter. A lot of people seem to think it's a 10% in PRICE, as opposed to 10% in duty. Figures have been thrown around, but it's going to work out around 2p a pint or there abouts, which isn't a great deal to be honest.

The mark up by the pubs for real cider is much more than real beer. I bet the pubs don't absorb any of the cost. Some of it is too strong, most of it. I would sooner it is down to 5.5% and cheaper.

Expect more bad news in October when booze in supermarkets has to be sold at a minimum value per unit and/or has to be retailed at true cost meaning multibuys will disappear.
