I went on a coach trip to Arras & Bruge markets last weekend. I didn't go in the market at Arras, I went down the tunnels that the British and Commonwealth troops had dug during WW1, very good tour. I then bought some booze in the local Carrefour. In Bruge, all I bought in the market was an Irish coffee and a bratwurst, both reasonably priced. I then bought some booze and chocolates in the local supermarket.

I imagine the rest of the year they're gainfully employed selling different kinds of tat at car boots. Or half and half scarves at football grounds. Or light up things outside Little Mix concerts.

Every year the wife and I have a pre-Christmas European weekend away without the kids, normally taking in a Christmas market or three. I love them and our tree has a decoration from each trip as a nice reminder (although they do tend to be "oh yes, that was the time we got smashed on gluhwein"). Did Munich last weekend. Was marvellous as always.

Just been to Prague and Budapest... market rich environment, some tat, some high prices, but in general I actually found things priced reasonably. Food and drink was decent quality though I did bleat once at £9 for a small portion of goulash on a potato pancake.

Just returned from another visit to the Birmingham version which is excellent.Just as well Trades Descriptions are loose about the staff nationality,as most are Rumanians,with a sprinkling of Brummies.Excellent currywurst,mit pommes frites,and a few fairly cold beers,in a secure environment,delightful.Bit warmer than the markets in Hameln and Hildesheim as well.

Ha, doesn't surprise me. Dodgiest German dialect I've heard in a while. I thought she sounded South African more than German.

It wasn't very good was it.
Was in Berlin a couple of years ago. Visited the Christmas markets. Had some gluhwein, was some German carols being sung, poked around some stalls selling lots of wooden things. Had plenty after about 40 mins. It’s quite cosy in a way but just swamped with crowds of people.
The Japanese Christmas market on the edge of town was far more interesting, if a little bizarre (bazaar?)!

la Carrière Wellington, Arras is where you went, I was there last week with my grandson ( aged 5 1/2) we took him to Arras for the Christmas market, we have been for the last 3 years and combine it with filling the car with wine.
Also visited the Vienna Christmas markets in late Nov far better than anything in the UK. The christmas Market in Bristol want £5.50 for a bratwurst I can buy a pack of 5 in Aldi for £1.50

It's right on my doorstep, so I'm extra curmudgeonly. I will, however, concede that the lights are pretty good this year
Sounds liked Edinburgh which has a pretty big Christmas Market running most of the length of Princes St. It’s alright to wander around for an hour, but wouldn’t actually buy much, if anything.

City centre manchester ain't cheap for a pint!!
The atmosphere was nice but I’m not a big shopper at the best of times and I’m not a fan of crowds so I’m not really their target consumer. Nice do go and see them but I wouldn’t rush to one again.
