Why do you think that? is it a distribution thing? I rate him personally.

Whilst I haven't seen a great deal of him, when I have he seems to have an error (or poor decision-making) in him and I'm not convinced his career ark provides sufficient evidence that he's going to make it at Premier League level - he made his Albion debut six years ago and has over 150 league appearances to his name, but I think he's fallen behind Sanchez in the pecking order.

Would be delighted if he proves me wrong, though.

He played for the U-23s against Manchester United on November 6, so he's been back a while.

I don't hold out much hope that he'll ever be in serious contention for the Albion first-team 'keeper job, though.

Who? Walton or Sanchez?

Walton started in that game, so I'm guessing him.

I also cant see him grabbing the number one shirt, I've seen him plenty of times in the Championship and there is pretty much nothing saying "this guy will turn into a great PL keeper some day". Sanchez is probably a lot more likely, he even got that carrot game from Potter - "you are pretty close, keep training hard and the job will be yours one day".

Yes, you're right. I was getting confused because Sanchez also started for the U23s recently, but on checking it out that was against Southampton (he was excellent in that). Walton I don't think is a PL goalkeeper, but Sanchez I think definitely has prospects.

Preferably starting at Fulham .................

Anything to read into the fact that Sanchez didn't play for the U23s yesterday, or is keeper that was picked a regular choice?

He's played a couple of games in PL2 this season, but think Rushworth has played more

I wondered the same, so I had a look. Carl Rushworth seems to have been the regular choice for the U23s. Sanchez has played 3 times this season with the U23s and Walton has played too (but I think only once).

I'm not enamoured at the prospect to be honest, Walton isn't Premier League quality, and Izqueirdo, even when fully fit, doesn't have enough quality either in my opinion.

Wow you have high standards, do we have any players on the development squad that are of the Premier League quality. If you were in charge, would you only be buying proven Premier Players and by passing the development/loaned and previously played players now.

I think he's right about Walton, sadly; nothing to do with high standards, I just don't think he's going to make it to our first team. Sanchez, on the other hand ..............................

He has done his apprenticeship outstandingly at a high standard. It looked good seeing him turn our us v Chelsea. I think he offers a lot and may well have played for us already this season if not for the horrendous injury. I hope the club still back him. What club do you think we will end up selling him too then, if he is not good enough for us. Someone will get a goal keeper with bags of experience who is only 25.

He has done OK but not spectacularly out on loan. I think he'll have a decent career, probably in the championship. I think Sanchez has overtaken him - he looked good against Chelsea and Spurs too.

Yes Sanchez did well at Forrest Green Rovers and Rochdale, and at only 23, so I can see why you think he is ready to go. I still think Walton has good experience having played for Bury, Plymouth, Luton, Southend on Sea, Wigan (2 seasons) and Blackburn, he has played in some really big games, bar injury he would definitely been our no 2. But as you think, perhaps this was just a stop gap and the club think he is just a championship keeper they have developed. I hope we get to see him play in the Premier.

I'd love to see Walton, Sanchez and/or someone else come through the youth set up and make it but unless we sign a proven PL keeper (on loan) I suspect we'll stick with Ryan. It would be a huge gamble to chuck an inexperienced keeper (PL) in the deep end particularly the way we try and play from the back.

Well, I guess we aren't going to agree! My feeling is that the number of times he's been sent out on loan yet again tends to count against Walton - but we'll just have to see what Potter, Ashworth and co.do in the next few weeks. I really think Ryan needs resting - and I'd rather see one of our youngsters given a chance than spending millions to bring someone in over their heads.
Whatever happens, I can see at least one of them wanting away in the summer, in search of first team football.

The club has always spoken of wanting the development keepers to have first team competitive football. Not sure it would ever be possible to get them on loan to premiership club (would defeat the objective) perhaps overseas top level. I totally believe Walton would have been No2 and competing with no1 spot with Ryan if it wasn't for the terrible injury.

The fact we were in for Martinez and lots of rumors of us being in for Henderson as well, may well see our younger goalies move away to get full time football. Still at 25 and 23 years of age they may be happy biding their time. We should see what 2021 brings.

Chapeau to Sanchez, talk about getting the shirt and keeping it. Taken his chance big time and looked fantastic against Fulham. I think your call is happening, long may it continue.
