Paul Merton is fantastic.
The title comedy genius is often banded around and usually pinned on somebody completey unworthy of the title, but in the case of Paul Merton I would say he is very deserving of the title of comedy genius.
Incredibly quick witted and intelligent individual with regards to one liners and his surreal rambling stories with his deadpan face are amazing.
He has me in hysterics and admiration at the same time.
The Paul Merton show was one of the best comedies on TV at the time but didn't really get much recognition.

Definitely, he’s a comic genius.

I’d add Spike Milligan (comedians since often speak of him as an inspiration), Paul Whitehouse, some of the Pythons and (more debatable) I love Tommy Cooper.

Lovely quote from former estate agent Lewis Hughes of Romford, Essex

"I feel very let down by Boris, for him to call me a thug. I actually voted for him as well"

:wozza:

Imagine serial-philanderer Boris Johnson letting down someone who trusted him...

Ah but, are things really getting better in every way? I fear not.

On average, across the piece, yes, yes they are.

My ex wife, a child of the 60s, was so convinced (back in the 90s) that everything is getting worse, that she belived that because of the modern processed food and louche lifestyle, our health was suffering. I showed her the data for infant mortality, baby birth weight, and life expectancy which has steadily and progressively improved since the war. Her response was 'yes but .....'. No, but no. Perceptions may be perceptions but facts are facts.

Does nothing to change the stereotype in my head of someone who thinks Mr Johnson is a good chap. I bet he feels like one of Mr Johnson’s former partners or children now. Oh well.

The fact that he was an estate agent is really no surprise.

Of course the bloke is (was) an estate agent.

...and "boxing enthusiast"...

...who seems to have a Jewish dog.

Very strange behavior and stranger that if threatened Mr Whitty isn't pressing charges .

'Police said when officers spoke to Prof Whitty, he had not suffered any injuries and told them at the time that he did not wish to make any allegations.'

He doesn't seem like the sort of chap to make a big deal out of things.

He's had to put up with a lot mind. Respect to him. Makes me wonder what else has happened to him.

An anti-vax, tory voting, unemployed ex-estate agent who can't hold his drink and will likely soon have a criminal record.

He'll go far.

What's absolutely lovely about that story is they chose to make an apology through the newspaper, but it's completely (and hilariously) further stitched them up.

I do love an original mistake completely compounded, I really do.

People who behave like that should understand the consequences of their actions. Having behaved like he did, he then apologises in The Sun, but complains Boris called him a thug. So not really an apology at all then. He still doesn't understand his behaviour was thuggish. One consequence of his actions should be that before he gets another job as an estate agent (i.e. mixing with the public), he should have his jabs. No jab, no job.

I don't understand the point of an anti-vax rally, when you are not forced to have it. I know it is highlighly recommend to have it, but still what are they actyually protesting about? "We don't want a vacine, that no one is making us have"

Before my time, but from what I've heard about him and the bits I've seen, I'd be surprised if you'd find many people to seriously argue with Tommy Cooper being a comic genius.

I think the fear is that, in time, they WILL be made to have it and are voicing their democratic right to protest about a rule that *might* exist (but doesn't currently) in the future.

That's pretty much the kind of logic we're dealing with here.

He claimed he was trying to get a selfie with the medic to show to his mother.

The most implausible excuse since Matthew Simmons' Off you go Cantona – it’s an early bath for you!’

Its probably something to do with bringing in a covid-driven "two tier society" - the jabbed and the jabbed-nots. The latter of whom could then be excluded from certain activities (flying, going to sporting events, cinemas etc).

His jokes imho are amazing, eye-watering stuff even now. Plus, like Whitehouse/Milligan, he had that infectious lunacy about him.

I'm not sure it was an anti-vax rally at all. There may have anti-vaxxers there, but you always get a collective of differing and extreme views at any rally these days.

It was probably mostly anti lockdown, a number of which were protesting about having had the vaccine, they were still locked down.

These two complete randoms probably went for a few giggles, had far too many lagers and (completely forgetting what they were protesting about in the first place) tried to get a selfie with the Chief Scientist.

Then utterly compounding the original TWO ERRORS they went to a tabloid to give their side of the story and have ended up being portrayed as foil hat wearers.

As I said above, it's a really lovely story and has brightened up my week.
