I think given his resume he probably deserves one but unfortunately it doesn't work like that. If come winter, you are a team battling relegation with problems at the back and need a firefighter to come in and make a team hard to beat then Hughton is probably only beneath Allardyce on the list.

Sadly, I think he'll be waiting a long time. It seems that the general view of Hughton is that he is a Championship specialist. While he can point out that he's never been responsible for a Premier League relegation, he has never "turned around" a club at that level. He did it for us in the Championship but hasn't had the opportunity to do so in the Premier League. It feels as though his reputation is about solidity rather than miracles and that's not as tempting to clubs in crisis.

All very sad, as I'd love him to get another job at that level and for us to give him the belated Amex ovation he deserves.

Depends what issues the club are going through I would say. If it's a team that's scoring goals and not being solid then I can see them looking Hughton's way. You can only 'turn around' a team in the Premier League if you go to them while they are in the Premier League: it's not really his fault that he's brought two sides up.

That said it's hard for me to see which that team is likely to be. Only plausible one to me would be Villa and am not sure that's a great culture fit. Sheffield United are unlikely to sack Wilder and I think there would be a riot in Norwich if he went back there. I doubt he'd go back to Newcastle even though the fans would love it: that doesn't leave many teams left. Maybe Southampton would make some sense if things go badly with Ralph. I guess Palace would be a good fit as well but that might make me cry.
