There is something less than the extreme y'know. I haven't seen Avram, Southgate, O'Neill, Coppell, Big Sam, Harry Redknapp, Alan Curbishley, or even Keano losing their rag bigstyle on teevee.
It don't need mental, or red-faced, or hair-dryer - but I've yet to see a SUCCESSFUL manager shrugging off defeat after defeat, even on television, and keeping his job.
Having mentioned Coppell, he's an example of a manager who did turn away from that essential belief that 11 men need to make them play like they've a right, like there's no big name entitled to beat them - he, as leader, announced that they WEREnT worthy of entering European competition. Guess what happened - they didn't qualify, and what happened next - they became ordinary. (and no, it was not just that Sidwell left them).
Football is not just about ground-skills, ball-juggling and reputation. It's also about mental attitude, belief, and confidence. That's how 2nd division clubs can beat Prem clubs in the cup, and it's how Reading started so well in the Prem last season, without any big names (or a ranting manager)

Why do Chairmen appoint people that the average Joe in the street know will be crap as managers. I'll give Gary Megson until late January and Glenn Roeder when Norwich have been relegated during the first couple of weeks in April.

Not sure who would fancy a job up in Wigan?! Wigan haven't been the same since Heskey got injured, if Hutchings had him fit. Then I'm sure he will still be in that job. Because Dave Whelan is not a sacking chairman, quite a shock he came to that decision through.
