Based on watching his Forest team - I'd be very surprised if he got a job in the PL, or the championship for that matter.
Although I guess there's more scope for completely berwilding decisions the further down you go.
Slightly random bounce, prompted by talk of Calde becoming a manager and then me remembering just utterly top blokes who have been in and around the club in the recent past and wondering what they are doing now.

Looks like you were right, Sid. I'm not sure what he's up to these days, but he's quite possibly done with football management. What a guy, though. Sure, the football was a million miles away from the best that the subsequent managers have offered, but he had a job to do and he got it done.

Legend.

My plans for visiting Ghana are now "in Rauch aufgehen" as Cheech Marin & Tommy Chong would say in their film translated to German.

Probably too old for a new club gig but could see him getting the Ireland job when they change manager in the not too distant future.

Had knee surgery recently. So not really physically capable of Coaching at the moment
Guess that rules him out for Ireland then as I suppose they'd want him as a player-manager given how their defence looks.

Jokes aside: hope the surgery went well and that he's able to return to coaching some day if he wants to. Despite the not great spells as Nottingham and Ghana, there's of course many teams that he could help a lot both in the EFL and elsewhere.

Rejected a few knowing surgery was imminent . Not

Not sure as many more will come up now but who knows. I think he will take one more

It just occurred to me it was 10 years ago today Chris Hughton was appointed Albion manager. What a legend and what a 10 years it's been.
With Kayal on 23/1/15, game-changers for the club.
Chris organised us to get results and Kayal was head and shoulders better than anything else we had. Why he joined a Championship relegation battle from Celtic I’ll never know, but I’m glad he did.

The next two seasons would go on to be tremendous fun (Boro and.Villa excepted). Actually winning at Fulham in the actual sunshine, ending in promotion at the end of the next season.

Also means my son has been doing away games for ten years soon. Charlton, a ground out 1-0 win under Hughton was his first.

I wonder whether Potter or even RDZ (with the squad available at that time), would have;
1. Saved us from relegation then,
2. Got us to within a knat’s whisker of the Premier League a year later.

I think that we would have been relegated under GP, but maybe bounced straight back up once the players had understood the tactics.
Under RDZ, hmm. Saved us from League One, but then left under a cloud moaning about the transfer policy.

Chrissy Hughton - Right Man - Right Time 👏👏👏

Yeh interesting one. Potter was still in Sweden then so it would have been before the Europa League campaign (I think) which put him on people's radars over here so it would have been an unbelievable gamble especially after Hyypia. De Zerbi was also fairly green then.

Hughton as you say was the right man at the right time. Despite a very poor summer transfer wise there was still talent in that squad- Stockdale, Bruno, Calderon, Greer, Dunk, Stephens, Teixeira, Baldock and especially with the addition of Kayal there was enough for an experienced boss to keep them in that division if they could stop leaking goals

The following summer we spent a fair bit:

Hemed
Hunemeier
Murphy
Goldson
Manu

Were all signed for fees plus the free transfers of Zamora and Bong was a decent outlay and we didn't really lose any key players unlike the previous summer. We then signed Knockaert and Skalak in the January. So I guess Hughton was backed. I may be wrong but I think the FFP rules were slightly changed which is what really did a number on us the previous year. I wonder how we would have got on if Hughton had been appointed instead of Hyypia ?

I loved Chris and genuinely felt sad when he left.

For all that we achieved since, it was essential we survived for those first two seasons, and with excellent organisation and defending, we did it.
That’s not to say the football was good, it wasn’t, but it was necessary, and Chris was not helped by some of the poor signings.

Potter transformed us again, but with the solid defensive base, and then RdZ continued the good work, but it all began with Chris Hughton…..❤️

A ground out 1-0 win at Charlton Athletic was one of my first away matches 30 years previously.

In fact, it was today 40 years ago.

Albion scored in the first minute and hung on for dear life for the rest of the game. I remember having a discussion with your lad about the merits of Lua Lua as an impact sub. He was evangelical about him and quite learned for a nine year old. After long away trips. I'm guessing nowadays we'll find him sleeping in an Inter-City roof rack with a bottle of Bud in his hand if he has inherited his ancestors genes....

We wouldn't be where we are without him. He may not be voted our 'best' manager at the end of the day - but I certainly think that he is one of our two most 'important' managers. Along with Mr Gritt obvisoulsy.

I was more upset about the sacking of Chris Cattlin than the departure of any other manager since I started following the Albion. Illogical but true.

CH had passed his sell by date but the way he was dumped did leave a bad taste to me but TB can be ruthless when he thinks it’s necessary. Having said that it’s exactly the sort of decisions a brilliant club owner needs to make.

I liked Chris Cattlin as well, always seemed to be a true Brighton person…..
He was in the lounges for a bit at the start….

I talk to Chris Cattlin every now and again on Hove seafront as he’s friends with a couple of dog walkers I know. He’s an absolute gentleman, still very switched on and obviously watches us. He made the observation after the Wolves game that he was far more annoyed with the supporting runners being in a straight line when they should have been staggered, than Weiffer’s pass itself.
