I certainly don’t think his approach is outdated for championship football but it does need the right players to implement. When he first joined us we still looked really poor with the Hyppia squad. Fortunately he was very well backed by TB and the rest was history.

Loaning out Walton (to Bury)was one of the first things he did in his first summer in charge here. Some things don’t change.

Knockaert and Murray? What did they do? Absolutely nothing.

Yes they look toothless and their stats back it up and thats why they need someone to come in with fresh ideas to make them less toothless and improve their stats. Lewis Grabban scored 20 goals in the Championship the season before CH took over. Lyle Taylor scored 11 in just 22 appearances. Joe Lolley also scored 11, as a winger. They might not reach those numbers again but someone can make them perform better than they currently are.

I think Knockaert and Murray obviously helped Forest because their results improved after the pair joined the club. You could saythat Lallana has done nothing at the Albion as he doesn't score or assist, but his influence is crucial..

Forest look a rudderless ship with no one capable of unlocking a defence. I don't rate Grabban, Taylor or Lolley. Hughton will get the chop because this is a results business and there aren't too many mug teams in the Championship either.

Knockaert did in the games I saw. I think Murray knew it was a last hurrah.

Grabban though is so inconsistent and whilst he did score goals, he is one of the reasons successive managers including Hughton are failing at what should be a big team.

Is CH now joining the band of managers whose approach is becoming slightly outdated?

Becoming? I think it happened a while back. Sad really as he was monumental for us in getting us into the Premier League, then keeping us there.

But once that was achieved it was time to try someone else with different ideas.

Retire Chris, get to know the wife and family all over again, and if a nice cosy job like managing Ireland comes along and you fancy it, then why not?

I think Murray is bit of a stretch - maybe even Knockaert. Lets be honest Forest poor form continued while they were both there.

I don't think Hughton has a lot to work with, but they certainly shouldn't be bottom of the Championship and Hughton has to carry the blame for that.

This, quit and go for the Eire job. I think he could do that well.

Where is Knockaert now?

Forest lost their first 4 matches last season. Knockaert joined on a 3-month loan and the following day they started a 4 match unbeaten run. In Jan his loan got extended, then Murray joined on 1st Feb on a free and the following day scored the winner on his debut away at Coventry. Forest took 14 points in February which - ultimately - got them to safety. I would argue that those experienced players had an impact on Forest pulling clear.

In terms of Hughton's future, Forest are on a winless league run of 11 matches since Easter, just 8 goals scored. They never get turned over, but then they never take enough risks to score more than one goal in a match. It all sounds very familiar.

Well at sixty odd he doesn't need the day to day stress of managing a club side anymore, he has done everything that it was possible to do, and has nothing to prove to anyone.

Surely now would be the ideal time to step away from it all.

Republic of Ireland would be a perfect fit.

That's game over, looking like dead certs for the drop at this stage. He's had a good career, but it shows we made the right decision. All those idiots like Danny Mills, John Barnes don't have a leg to stand on now.
