By some fans, I guess you mean me?

If you think we were dull under CH in the championship, then it maybe you didn’t go? Perhaps you have a selective memory I don’t know, but the one thing we weren’t in the championship was defensive.

Edit - not just you, but I would apply that to a number who have started rewrite history based on a poor ending to his time in charge.

Granted, but it was still built on a defence first approach.

Sorry Hamilton, but do you seriously think we were defence first in the championship?

Just nothing like it for me.

I’d agree if you said we had a solid defence, but we were hardly a defence first team in any games. Of course that changed in the PL but CH was doing what needed to be done in terms of survival.

Our football in those 2.5 Championship seasons under CH was a good as anything I've seen.

Bucketloads of goals, some hammerings of the (expensively assembled) opposition, a ridiculously big number of home wins. Muzza, AK, Hemed, Kayal, Bruno, Skalak, March and Baldock, brilliant going forward.

The cautious/negative football was adopted with our waek squad, the moment we reeahed the EPL.

i would take issue here , many away games we were playing for a point , with not much intention of anything but counter attacks

I don’t agree and went to most of them.
Inevitably, you are under more pressure away than you are at home, we were rarely set up defensively from the outset.

…and winning.

Those two seasons in the Championship we scored 146 goals and lost just 14 games out of 92.

I remember enjoying this video after that game.

I've skipped out the dull bits, starts from their confident "we'll beat them" and gets better from there on.

Normally I respect your views on football, but you are way off the mark here and showing some ignorance/arrogance

I sat through (live) all the seasons that Chris managed Brighton.

The only truly awful spell was the last half of the last season. Other than that the time in the premier league was mostly pragmatic with a few really good results.

More importantly, the football played in the championship, once he'd got us safe in the first season, was bloody good. Not the same, slick, 'play out from the back' style of Potter, but fast, exciting and great to watch. I enjoyed the football during two full seasons that Hughton managed us in the championship more than I've enjoyed the football under Potter. So far. I hope that will change as Potter is given the time to develop the squad, but as yet, that is the reality based on my time sitting in the stadium and watch pretty much every home game, and many away games live.

You may love Potter, and fair enough, but calling Hughton 'a poor man's Pulis' makes you look like a complete tw*t. Which I don't think you really are.

I sat through those seasons as well. The last two in the championship were brilliant but I can't agree that the only bad spell was the last half of the last season. Pretty much every away game in the EPL, most of which I sat through, were dire. There were of course some highlights, eg West Ham but in the main, we were poor, understandably. His second season away performances were absolutely dire and then of course the home form deserted us and that was the nail in the coffin.

Which is perfectly fine. This is not about "Graham Potter vs. Chris Hughton", its about Chris Hughton in Nottingham Forest.
Throughout your time on here it's been clear to all of us that that pretty much sums it up for you. Not so much that you hate CH - I'm sure you don't - but your fan worship of Potter always triggers you at any suggestion that Hughton may have done some things as well as Potter, or when anything positive is said about Hughton that you fear might detract from the glory of Potter.
I will continue to read, sometimes enjoy and respond to some of your other interesting and well informed posts. I'll just avoid any more in which you are telling Brighton fans all about Chris Hughton!

Reading? Sheff Wed? 2-2 and 2-1

Went to both of those - think you have a different idea to defensive set up than me.

Accept Huddersfield who CH never fathomed, and Norwich we’d been celebrating for a week (—and they had two shots) so a little harsh.

Some of my most recent non-Nottingham related comments about CH:

Hopefully some players can improve their pace and (more likely) insight and hopefully a few of the fairly quick fringe players (like Tau) could break into the team. I have no doubt GP and others want the team to attack quicker when there is a possibility and if we compare the not-so-quick team today with the team GP took over, there has definitely been some increase in pace in most areas of the pitch and I expect that to continue. On a sidenote it also highlights what a fantastic job Chris Hughton did because the squad he had is possibly the slowest one to stay up in the league for the last 20 years or so.

Personally I dont make any CH vs GP comparisons. I've retrospectively seen a few Brighton games where CH was in charge but not enough to say all that much.
While I generally disagree with the perception of the strength of this squad - its a very common opinion on pretty much every PL teams forum that "we have better players than our league position", and not everyone can be right about it - I do think, from what I saw of the CH squad, that it was quite an achievement to stay up in the league the two first seasons, so well done to CH.

Ive also repeatedly said that I think Hughton overperfomed with his squad in the PL.

I have no problems with positive things being said about Hughton but there is absolutely nothing positive to be said about his Nottingham Forest side and I dont know why the **** people have this urge to pretend the opposite. Just watch them play FFS - its an absolute monstrosity of dull, negative, frightened "football" that leads absolutely nowhere in terms of results. For those defending his job in Nottingham, I dare you to watch 46x90 minutes of the horseshit they are producing.

It’s fine you commenting on Forest but you tend to tell posters what views they should hold of our past. That’s the past you don’t really have any knowledge of. I’ll also add all of your knowledge of us is in watching all the games in 2d on a screen. You never get the perspective of speed and movement.

Apart from that speaking to my st friend at Forest and he says they’re awful

I'm pro-gratitude so when someone is generous enough to invest £300m and people say "I want more and better", I indeed think they should shut the **** up and realise how bad things could have been. Dont need to be anywhere to have that opinion, its just uncommon sense.

The play-off we were down to 9 men due to injuries, not sure anything other than containment would have been sensible.
Still don’t agree 😃
