What I find bizarre is that they've sacked Hughton halfway through a season when they don't seem to be in any relegation danger and the team are all behind the manager. Now, relegation looks a very real possibility because the transfer window is around the corner and it's every man for himself.
Hughton's big thing was keeping faith with the players who got them relegated. They, in turn, have kept faith with him. Now I expect the old doubts to creep in.
Just look what's happened to Villa since O'Neill left and, to an extent, Fulham after Hodgson.
You wonder what Ashley's playing at? Maybe he intends to flog Andy Carroll to Chelsea and wants a manager who will spend the proceeds more wisely than Hughton could manage.
