I don't get this at all. The headline in the argus on friday said he'd already signed. The only explanation I can come up with is the argus has some shoddy journalist/editors who don't care about things like accuracy or facts, but that can't possibly be true...

My take on it ? Forster has intimated that he's going to hang his boots up at the end of the season,to be offered a coaching job, and Gus (unlike a lot on here!) is doing some forward planning by getting his replacement onboard in plenty of time. The stumbling block therefore is obvious, the lad ain't going to feature as much as he would like. But if Gus tells him to sling his hook, he risks missing out on another Beckford type striker (who also stepped up to league football in his early/mid 20's. I thank you!

sounds about right

Think the club ballsed up by putting anything on the website at all, nothing should be appear on the official site until the ink is dry on a contract. That goes for a player coming in or going out. No need to put anything up beforehand

I think your right in the sense that Gus is looking at CH as the EVENTUAL successor to Nicky. I doubt very much that Nicky is going to retire, he has proven that he can still score goals and although he will be 37 at the beginning of next season he will still have a roll to play as a player but perhaps not as much as this season. Also I hope Nicky will step in to coaching the Albion a bit more next season, IF Holroyd signs Gus and Nicky will turn him into a quality striker.

United left hanging as Holroyd's move stalls

CHRIS Holroyd's move to Brighton & Hove Albion hangs in the balance due to a "stumbling block" over personal terms.

Cambridge United's top scorer was expected to sign for the League One strugglers yesterday after the clubs agreed an undisclosed five-figure fee plus add-ons on Friday.

But the England C international is still locked in discussions with the Seagulls over personal terms.

Director of football Jez George said he hoped the matter would be sorted out quickly one way or the other.

He said: "There has been a stumbling block in terms of him negotiating personal terms, so that's something that can only be resolved between Chris and Brighton.

"We're speaking to his agent to find out where the stumbling block lies and will know more in the next 24 hours if it's something insurmountable or not.

"It's something that's in everyone's best interests to be resolved as quickly as possible because it makes it difficult for everybody."

Don't castigate me for having an opinion...........I did not say Forster's going to retire from playing, but it could be a possible scenario.....let's have your view instead of "absolute rubbish", which is freely said on here.

Forster has been quoted as saying he wants a new PLAYING contract for next season. He therefore is not thinking of hanging up his boots.

You suggested he was thinking of retiring, he isn't.

Hmm, only one goal in his last 10 games? Sounds like a bit of a gamble. Ok, you could argue he was being tighly marked, but what would happen if he played in the Football League and the same happened - as it probably would?

at non league level they know him well the quality of defence in league one is better so he will find it hard to adapt at first but he is aproven scorer at lower level with murray forster dickenson and holroyd all capable of at least 10 goals a season we will have a potent strike force

Even Jake Robinson was able to score loads in the Conference. If he cannot score being marked by Conference defenders, what chance would he have in the Championship - which is where we are going?

I spoke to a mate of mine today whose lad plays for Cambridge Utd youth. He said that the figure he has heard being mentioned is a £60k fee.
He went on to say that Holroyd is a natural goal scorer, and at that price a reasonable risk. All seems to hinge on his wage demands. What will be will be!

I suppose I could pop down the road to see how he's getting on, seeing as he's starting against Eastbourne.

Nah, too cold.
