Chicago music / Motown music

Hi all, im needing help!!!

This year i am running the dance squad section of my cheerleading squad. This means i have to choose music / theme / costumes etc etc etc

I have chosen the theme, which is going to be a 20's theme.

The costumes are going to be that charleston type, with fishnets et al.

Now, here is the problem. The damn music!! The first minute and 40 is going to be "Funny Honey" - from the musical Chicago (the origional version, not that renee zellweger stuff). This is going to be slow tempo, floorwork type stuff. Now i've got a minute and 10 of music to find.

I really really want it to be up tempo, as itll be the second half of the music. I also want it fitting in with the Motown / Chicago in the 20's music. I also want a song that is not all that well known, so no-one else will have the same song!!!

Does anyone have any ideas? I've been listening to motown for a couple of hours, and cant find anything i want, but then i may not be looking in the right places.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as i need music by the end of this week!!!

You could try putting som random motown-ish artists into Pandora, that might turn up something useful. I stress might though...

Not exactly sure what you're after, but how about 'Aint Got No' by Nina Simone vs Groovefinder, it was on a recent advert. It's up tempo and although obviously not of the 20s era it has that feel. Might be wide of the mark, but there you go...

What about that number one in the early 90's based on the Charleston itself ? It was a bit dancy but I can't for the life of me remember the title or aritist but I'm sure someone on here will be able to.

Maybe you want more motown though? (Which is more like 1960's though)? Martha Reeves Heatwave?

Sorry edited as I was linking to the wrong song...

I sorta wonder what Motown has to offer relating to Chicago 30's sound?
Why not head for authentic period-styled music like you might hear from such as Duke Ellington, Bessie Smith or ragtime Scott Joplin?

If you want it to be period music brought up to date (and easier to find!), there's a short piece, a cover of a Duke Ellington number called 'East St.Louis Toodle-Oo' redone very competently by Steely Dan. It's on Pretzel Logic I think, and also on their greatest hits cd.
Even if you don't use it, it is really a great tune to listen to anyway - upbeat and fun.

what motown and 20's big band?

Ok, YOU find an uptempo song from the 20's, that has a big creschendo at the end, that would be good for a dance squad in a cheerleading championship!
