I won't get it if its really hard. A window on the level of my thought processes....

Queening the d pawn seems essential for white unless there is some mating net with bishop and knight possible - if the puzzle is really complex then it could involve queening the g pawn (but I can't work that far ahead)
Can't be d8 because of fork on f7 that would follow
Nf6+ is obviously possible but can't see where it would lead
Ne5 would protect f7
The black bishop moving to a5 is a problem
etc etc

no idea really :)

Good thinking

I've tried that...then...

1. Nh5+ Kg6. 1. Ne8+ doesn't work, I don't think.

Then, I can't get any of Nf4+, Bc2+, or Bh5+ to work out well for white...

I figure you have keep checking, otherwise Black has Ba5...

I've tried that...then...

1. Nh5+ Kg6 is correct, white to move, one of the three is best

Agree that Ba5 seems to be a hammer blow if allowed...

Seems "impossible" to get anything to work out well for white. I'm assuming this puzzle is VERY difficult to work out and as such likely to be well beyond my capability.

White does not have many pieces to choose from ~ in those circumstances what is the last thing you would do?

1. Nf4+?

The problem is that I don't know what happens after 1...Kf5

There are more checks and a bit of a net develops with h3, h4 and h5 all covered - but still feel like an Albion striker...

It's much longer if he doesn't do 4...Nf7+... (Kg4, for example) but then White has a Queen, which is ample material advantage...

In the example cited, if Black doesn't promote the pawns to Knights, then it's over much quicker...

Four knights cannot stop a single bishop

Four knights cannot stop a single bishop

Quick back of the fag packet calculation says that 4...Kg4 (giving White the Queen) means that mate is 35-ish moves later, but inevitable...

And, yes...the 4 Knights v bishop is very elegant
