Bishop takes knight

Definitely could be it.
What happens after QxB...?

p.s. thanks to CaB and Titanic for excellent suggestions....[emoji2]

Do you mean Qg5+ (using current notation)...?

Doesn’t lead directly to mate but allows rook capture so to be a pawn up and winning position...?

Yeah this I think.
White King's move are all weak exposing various pins available for Black's bishop and the easy move of R to g8
Assume the White K would move to f1?

Q xR put's the Knight and KR Pawn under threat as well as protecting Black's passed pawn.
Very strong position, but seems to be a lot of play left after that combination.

NSC needs an online chess knockout tournament. Reckon it would have loads of potential.

I really would organise it myself, except I can't be arsed.

Can't see anything quick, so I think it's
RXg2
Kxg2
Qg5
Kf1
Qxf4...

Yes, that’s what I think too. Unless anyone comes up with something better! [emoji23]

Seems a slightly tame result for a puzzle - but is intermediate sort of level so plenty of advantage...

Best I've got is black getting 2 pawns...

1...Rxg2+
2 Kxg2 Qg5+
3 Kf1 Qxf4
4 Nd4 Qxf6

Then black gets his R on the e file.

Should’ve gone for the 4-2-3-1 formation, the king would’ve been fine.

I'm not very good but can see something to do with queening d pawn, and a fork on f7 and other checks available to black ...

Is Bb3 the right first move?

NO
White has only got four pieces to move, Truly diabolical though.

I won't get it if its really hard. A window on the level of my thought processes....

Queening the d pawn seems essential for white unless there is some mating net with bishop and knight possible - if the puzzle is really complex then it could involve queening the g pawn (but I can't work that far ahead)
Can't be d8 because of fork on f7 that would follow
Nf6+ is obviously possible but can't see where it would lead
Ne5 would protect f7
The black bishop moving to a5 is a problem
etc etc

no idea really :)
