There are temporary structures that have been blown down.
Plus the prevailing wind for general rubbish, is straight down the course as the horses run up it.

This is the most absurd decision of all time. Yes a plastic roof blew off a temporary tent but the winds will subside by race time and its down to the compensation culture and fear someone will get a twig in the eye and sue the course. This Cheltenham has been the worst ever, yesterday was a total wash out and today, wee what can you say. Ok the are in desparation fitting in the races over the next 2 days but it makes a mess of the cards and to have a 10 race and 9 race card is absurd. May as well have written off the Wedsnesday. Ruined my day off I had planned with my mate months ago. I am NOT happy.

Cheltenham are quoting 50 mph gusts until 3-4 o'clock.
The last thing I heard the beeb say was till about noon.

Never the less that's still too close to call, when that 'temporary tent' will be housing 25,000 paying punters.
I doubt fully refunding them approx £500 each, was a decision they took lightly.

Presumably you have been (or are) on course, have highly detailed weather projections and are a highly skilled structural engineer?

What do you mean "no" ?

A lot of people will be disappointed but you can rest assured that if they thought that all associated with the racing could be accommodate safely and comfortably today, that racing would be going ahead.

Many who were at Cheltenham yesterday are describing it as an absolutely cracking day of racing, so what do you mean when you describe it as a "total wash out" ?

Way out west
It is very windy in this part of the World today, anyone who saw pictures from the course earlier in the week will have seen the damage done to the hospitality tents, imagine how much worse that would have been had they been in use at the time. Whilst this may annoy and inconvenience race-goers, punters and those employed at the races I am sure the decision wasn't taken lightly and is the right one...the risk of serious injury, or worse, has been averted.

The racing yesterday was SHIT. This would not have been called off 10 years ago, it down to the pc, compensation people that with a strong breeze they runied the day for everyone. Cheltenham course made NO efforts to keep today's racing and with no reason called it off as they could not be bothered with the effort. Well the whole festival is OFF as far as I am concerned and I will not be watching any of it.

i assume your on a laptop typing this in the middle of the course because obviously you wouldn't make such a statement without knowing EXACTLY what the weather conditions are/are going to be.........

I had planned this day for months and am pissed off. I saw Thomson on the course and it was calm with the occassional strong breeze. None of the jockeys and trainers could believe it has been called off.

You're making yourself look a complete arse.

Aside from that, please explain why the racing yesterday was shit.
