There wouldn't be one if some didn't think that gambling and possibly a day out was more important than the lives of horses and other animals.

Just look through this thread and not one mention regarding the welfare of the horses - so few with a conscience.

You are on here every year. Can we just acknowledge that your views have been noted and leave it at that.

The whole animal welfare with regards to horse racing is worthy of discussion and I am quite prepared to discuss it with you…. If you start your own thread.

Other than that - please do not derail this one

The OP asks for poster's thoughts - I've given mine and stand by them.

This type of thread is the ideal one to put these thoughts forward as it illustrates perfectly how the priority for so many is gambling irrespective of the harm being done to the animals they are betting on.

Horses, the only animal you can beat in public without comeback.

At some point the collective conscience will ensure horse racing goes the same way as other cruel sports.

I wouldn’t want to see horse racing banned but the national hunt variety over those big fences does seem unnecessarily cruel.

The sheer arrogance that you show in claiming to know what people do or don’t care about is beyond belief, matched only one assumes by your ignorance.

Tens of thousands of people work directly with horses in horse racing training yards in this country and Ireland - each and every one of them cares for and loves horses. The horses all live in 5 star luxury and are cared for more than any horses in the wild.

The fact that you consider yourself morally superior to all of them is completely unpalatable to me.

Horses die turned out in fields or cast in their box, it is horrible and unfortunate but without horse racing - none of those thoroughbreds would even exist.. there simply would not be anything like the numbers of horses in the world

You’re like the misguided vegan who thinks if we all stopped eating beef and drinking milk we could look at all the lovely cows in the countryside…. What cows?

Thats because we're all too excited about winning or losing loads of money. Stop killing the vibe!

You are correct - "without horse racing there simply wouldn't be anything like the number of horses in the world " - you post this as though that would be a bad thing

Trying to compare cows in a field with the over breeding and in breeding for the purpose of "fun" with animals bred for food is a non-starter. Just try whipping a cow in public to make it produce more milk.

As for the accusation of moral superiority, call it that if you will, for me it's a simple matter of conscience As someone who has taken care of. horses that don't make the grade and seen the consequences of that failure, I feel very strongly about the subject, as I'm sure would most people who experienced the same.

As with a lot of animal cruelty it is not the "end user" but the breeders that are the main problem. Without the end user however there wouldn't be a problem in the first place.

Let the bloke have his say, it's a free country. It's you who are derailing the thread here. And yes, I will be betting a little on Cheltenham (although much prefer football betting tbf). Some footballers die of a heart attack, many more marathon runners too. I would like horse racing to be as safe for the horses as possible without banning it.
