What was he sent to watch? it clearly wasn't a handball, when he gave the box signal after watching I thought he gave a penalty and was thinking what a crock of shit, even though it meant we had a penalty, so what was he sent to watch? and what did VAR overturn?

He gave the penalty apparently. That’s why he was sent to look at it.

Didn’t see the incident properly. Did the ref award a penalty and then VAR overturn it? If so, did the ref really award the penalty quickly enough that the ball hadn’t gone out for a corner by the time he blew his whistle?

If the above is how it happened, I get that the rules have been followed properly but still it seems massively unfair to not get the corner.

I listened on the radio and Warren said he gave it.

If it wasn't given, there was no reason for him to go to the monitor to review it and say it's not a penalty.

Just to clarify - Pawson gave the penalty - hence the review and drop ball as he stopped the game for a penalty.

How very sporting of Sanchez to give us a corner that should have been awarded in that case..

Apparently what happened is Pawson gave the penalty in play. VAR sent him to the screen to check his decision, so then he didn’t give it, which is why it was a drop ball. A complete shambles all round

According to the commentator here in Norway, that’s the rule!
If the decision is overturned in that situation the defending team gets an indirect free kick.

Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Quite clearly not a penalty - why on earth was he sent to the moniter?! They’re all just bottle jobs.

To try and prove he has the bottle to stick to onfield after clearly not doing so first time.

Plus Brighton scoring from the corner after ball hit Colwills head and denying Chelsea the 3 points, had to be prevented.

Giving ball back to Sanchez with a drop ball for absolutely no reason? and denying Brighton goal scoring opportunity from a corner was simply not justifiable in any way.

Levels of incompetence that would have any one of us fired in our professions.

I don't see why he would go to the monitor if he didn't award it.

If he did. play stopped at the point of the infringement, not when the ref blew the whistle, so it would have been stopped before the ball went out of play.

The ball was out when play was stopped. The offence happened in play but can be brought back. The whistle was not blown while the ball is in play, therefore the corner must be given.

.........but the (initial) decision was a penalty, so anything after that is irrelevant
