"Chelsea have been banned from signing new players in the next two transfer windows for breaching rules in relation to the international transfer and registration of players under the age of 18, Fifa has announced.

They have also been fined 600,000 Swiss francs, while the Football Association has been fined 510,000 Swiss francs.

The ban does not prevent the release of players and will not apply to Chelsea's women's and futsal teams.

More to follow."

Would also have an impact on them sacking Sarri, as it would limit the opportunities for players coming in for the new manager.

Looks like the once mighty Chelsea are about to fall.

Roman will be off soon. He'll buy a German or French club.

With all the players they have out on loan, it still gives them quite a lot of scope for bringing fresh faces in if necessary.

Nice big pay rise for a few out of contract players and their agents this summer then.

They'll appeal, and the ban will be suspended for one window, where they will spend £350m and then have a two window ban.

If the ban stays as it is, it might be very good for some cracking young talent they evidently have there. Loftus Cheek, Hudson Odoi, Ampadu etc

At last the governing bodies are showing some teeth and starting to bite .... about time

Hopefully others such as Man City and their circumvention of the FFP will get punished and forced to follow the rules everyone else has to. The EFL are just starting to use their powers over championship clubs and need to be quicker & stronger on the punishments.

Has to be good for the whole game in the long run so well done FIFA

If the ban stands this will be a massive problem for them - yes they've got loads out on loan, but if those players were top 4 material they'd already be playing. No truly top manager will go there with no prospect of bringing in his own type of players - probably nailed on Lampard will go there sooner rather than later now to manage the 'no transfers' period

True, we have loads of players out on loan, doubt any of them are ready to play in the Premier League although I’m sure Chelsea’s are probably higher quality for the most part but I still doubt they would get into the first team without weakening it.

Just the time to get Mourinho back. He'd just love to manage a team without spending money!

Seriously, although the idea has been suggested (and pooh-poohed already), having to develop what is there does make the job more suitable for Wenger than it was before the ban.

Didn’t Barca have a ban and still signed players?

They signed them but couldn't play them. Arda Turan was an example - he signed but didn't play for 6 months plus because of the ban (although he was a bit rubbish for them so just didn't play even when eligible).
