What’s a genuine reason though?

Only thing I can think of is a fixture change but you couldn’t enforce that given when the fixtures come out we’re playing 3pm on a Saturday for every game.

Surely the ticket exchange is there for that reason. The club has made its money by selling the ticket. Re-selling it they are profiting again. If it doesn’t sell they aren’t out of pocket the person you know is.

Quite frankly what does it matter? As someone mentioned earlier in the thread I can’t get my head around why people get upset by empty seats. Happens at every ground for nothing games.

And given we’ve already signed up for next season’s season tickets with absolutely no idea when we are going to be playing home matches there has to be a bit of leeway and flexibility.

Paying £700 to main a post nominal “STH” and the legal right to present yourself as such at the annual fans forum is value for money Id argue!

Unless I’m mistaken this is about fans not snapping up exchange tickets.
Yes so it’s even more ironic to suggest that non ST holders aren’t interested in this game. - however justified (cost, midweek, little riding on it) - It sold out !

That Chelsea plastic rivalry is embarrassing, all they have done is pay over the top for three players and a manager.
Chelsea fans don’t give us a second thought and the the majority of the ones I’ve met are sick of their owners buying players from Brighton.
Really?

The best atmosphere ever at the Amex was when we tonked them last season . . . I can't wait for tomorrow and hope there's an atmosphere with similar venom. . .they are a club of criminally funded over entitled mercenary wankstains of over 20 years. To think I liked them ( to watch the football) mid 90's with VIalli, ZOla and Gullit, they were a class act.

Far more of a threat to us in recent years than Palace have ever been, they are/were direct rivals for league position and euro spots, and tore us apart . . . Or tried . . . I have more respect for Palace than I ever will for Chelsea.

There is one simple solution.......Give season ticket holders the right to give tickets to friends as 1901 holders do and we`d have very few on ticket exchange or empty seats.
Quite

That is quite clearly the club being a bunch of cun*s. Same issue with transfering seats and loyalty points.

they do so much so well but maintaining faith in loyalty isn't one of them IMHO

well I could say I worked bloody hard to put money away to have a decent retirement in some very shitty jobs that nearly took me under a few times, but most people could say the same.

anyway the argument tends to be one that goes down the entitlement and resentment route, which quite honestly as we are mates, I won’t go down.

suffice it to say I am happily enjoying my retirement and as I still don’t get my state pension I am living off savings and private pension so it’s nice to get a added bonus of pensioner rates for footy.
👍🏽✊🏽

All of which kind of confirms the sliding scale of it all . . . . I agree, we graft, we save ( if we can) and or accumulate whatever . . . .hopefully survive long anough to relax and enjoy.

I suppose my point is 'free to those who can afford it, very expensive to those who can't' . . . . The state pension should slide and be means tested IMO . . . Ease in at 60 say ( I'm making this up as I go along) and also be capped by other income. . . You have £100k+ from elsewhere, you don't need it . . . Do you? It would also, possibly encourage people to work on, maybe 2-3 days a week, ( I wish I could). as mentors to trainees and ensure succession within companies.

The atmosphere was there because Potter was there last season. The rest of the games against Chelsea have been nothing significant.

IMO that's a really sweeping generalisation.

Not all pensioners have final salary pensions.

Anyway, all of us (hopefully) will reach pensionable age and thus benefit from the concession price.
Yes, yes it is, it's my speciality!

The bigger issue is too many are now not reaching pensionable age . . . After the last 15 years we're working harder, longer, for less, dying younger and having to retire later if we actually make it that far.

That's progress for you.

I don't begrudge anyone of you what you've worked hard for in retirement, you didn't make the rules up, but the world has changed a lot since the 60's and none of it stacks up fairly, if at all any more. I just find it sad that so few have way way too much and so many have not enough, in a nation which generates more than enough for all.

Well who else is going to buy the tickets? The original MBM tickets are cheaper than exchange tickets.

Firsrtly . . .I wasn't making reference to any of the other games against them . . .most of what I saw previously was slack jawed yokels admiring Chelsea school us!

rivalries have to start somewhere.

the vast majority of match goers never saw us play Palace until this century. Decade even.

How many went to the GOldstone in '74? ( I was 2, so no I didn't)

pompey . . .yes no? Nothing really, they're just pompey (scum)

we had a better rivalry with Leyton Orient in the 90's!

Surely a rivalry has to work two ways, I live in West London and they really don’t give a shit about us. The Chelsea I know can’t quite work out Teds obsession with us and that’s about it.

Just had a peek at their chat page. Not even a mention of anything remotely like that. I work & drink in London with a fair few Chelsea fans. They simply don't care about Brighton. Annoyed with themselves for over paying but seem to quite admire Brighton to be honest. Usual homophobic crap admittedly. Starting to really warm to Caicedo & Cucurella too.

Yup those Chelsea podcasts can’t be reflective of real fans, the podcasts exist to manufacture a bit of lame overhyped guff and controversy to get clicks. How many clubs have Chelsea overpaid, that useless Ukrainian, Fernandez wasn’t worth the money and that Southampton youngster has virtually ceased to exist, Chelsea loom way larger in our eyes then we do in theirs. I hope we move on quickly and start hating Chelsea for the good old fashioned proper reasons (that their fans are knobby Millwall lookalike fash bellends)

Good post. Made me think back over the years. I always remember Portsmouth being a massive rivalry. Southend Utd another one back in the 70s
