Madness surely to spend so much on a 17 year old even if he's a wonder kid. At 17 Fati was the new wonder kid, at 21 is he already a has been?
Similarly Mbappe was a wonder kid at that age and is now one of the best players in the world.

They can afford to gamble, so they do.

Sad news - the asset stripping continues as they unveil their latest purchase from Brighton - Tony Bloom's brand new Skoda.

In a pile of football shirts
Wow, they're cutting out the middle man (i.e. us!) - that'll save them 18 months, and 50 mill...possibly, or not.
Let’s hope he turns out to be shit

I wonder how the forwards / wingers in their academy feel with so many young players on long contracts essentially blocking their pathway, and the business plan being to essentially loan them out and sell on for pure profit in order to sign the next wonderkid.
You can’t feel sorry for players like Shim Mheuka and Zak Sturge who had that pathway to a first team place and then decided to move there

Younger players who start there will get very good coaching though, most know their chances of breaking through are very slim.

They probably look at their £100K+ a week (£5M a year) contracts and think, life ain't that bad really.
Lads at the academy aren’t earning anywhere near that much!

Also most know Chelsea academy is a production line churning out players to be sold. If you’re there as a scholar you’re pretty much guaranteed to be a professional footballer rather than being semi-pro in nonleague.

and their chances of a decent career elsewhere, in time, are good I'd imagine.

now possibly spending €50M on a striker deemed surplus to requirements at aston villa

Their fans thought they were getting Victor Osimhen. And instead they're getting Jhon Duran. Marvellous.

Looking like they will be doing a player exchange type deal with Villa, and possibly Palace.

another deal with villa. this kid has played less than an hour or pro football. definitely something dodgy going on in terms of FFP book-balancing

Wonder if they've walked because the club just use their academy stars for profit now, or its another Todd Boehly masterclass of out with the old, in with the new? Hopefully they don't come for any of our academy staff...
