Local - Flower Marie difficult to find local sheep cheese, brilliant if you can find it.
Hard - I do like Manchego
Knock your socks of blue - Roquefort
Quirky - Y fenni cheddar with mustard and ale.

Here's one you'll be surprised at, Sainsburys sell an aged Red Leicester from their deli counters, it is excellent.

Was going to recommend this myself. Knocks spots off most other soft cheese. Also worth looking out sussex charmer which is a cross between cheddar and parmesan and perfect for grilled cheese. So many good local cheeses readily available if you look. And if you really want to appreciate cheese try a day out cheese making.

Take a trip to Borough market where there are loads of different cheese on offer and sellers willing to let you try all of them. Then you can make your own mind up.

Roquefort and Gruyere are my two favourite cheeses. For something that is a bit non-standard I really like Double Gloucester with chive and a onion. A wonderful improvement on the original.

There is a stall which sells this french cheese which has a chedder/parmesan taste. I think it is a derivative of Tomme. The name of it escapes me but this is highly recommended. Anyway, this comes with a Tubthumper 2 stars.

This is by far my favourite. Pair this with a slightly chilled Mikkella 'George' Cognac Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. You do not need much more in life.

Tomme de Savoie is a nice local cheese for me, sure you can get it over there too, reblochon is another good local and beaufort if you want a hard cheese.

There was a cheese I bought at Middle farm once. Black bomber or something like that. Absolutely blew my tongue off, but very tasty all the same, never found anything like it since. Waitrose do an 8 but it doesn't come close.

Apart from M&S, and some chedder in Tesco's....the Dutch seem to have won the 'cheese war' here with rows of bland gouda.
Czech hermelin, comes chilli'ed up in bars, but otherwise, also pretty bland.

I love strong cheddar. My wife found 'Fiery Fred's Crazy Cheddar' on sale at Glastonbury and it is the strongest, tastiest, loveliest cheddar I have eaten in my 55 years. It makes Black Bomber taste like Co op Mild. No chillies or anything, just NATURAL DECOMPOSITION.....
I've just ordered my 2nd batch through the post since Glastonbury. It comes inc postage, which may be because it walks here on its own
