Grated cheddar, mustard powder, worcester sauce and an egg.......mix, spread on lightly toasted bread then grill. Heaven.

Au naturale old chap. Bread and cheese. Nothing else. That's the classic, anyway - there are variants of course.

Add a sprinkling of Worcester Sauce .... mmmmmmmmmmmmm

A staple treat at school.

Toast. Check.
Dolmio. Check.
Cheddar. Check.
Finely sliced Peperami. Check.
Oregano. Check.
Worcester Sauce. Check.

Job done.

With Worcester Sauce mmnnn!

Worcester sauce or no sauce

... and it's pronounced ...

We did a tour of the Champagne region of France some years ago and had it quite often then but havent seen it advertised very much lately perhaps it has died a death.
Adding the egg made it a more substantial snack meal.

Next time I'm in a french restaurant I'll be on the lookout for one of these.

Simple but irresistible. Acclaimed by my wife, who is my harshest crtic (brutal!).

Heavily load cheese onto your brown bread, put directly under medium grill with thin slices of tomato as topping and Worcestershire sauce (+ secret ingredient).

Comes out slightly floppy and is so damn succulent and tasty.

I like to use red Leicester instead of cheddar nowadays.

Oh....and don't forget to sprinkle a cheeky drop or five of Tabasco to the sizzling beauty on serving.

Cheeseytastic!

Spread Colmans English mustard on your toast before adding the Extra Mature Cheddar, then when ready, a small smattering of HP sauce.

Derby Gull: Croque Madame (sorry I spelt it wrong) receipe is avaiulable on Epicurous.com after doing a google search for Croque Monsieur and reading the alternatives at the bottom of the page, as you had me doubting myself.

Can I just add that Heinz Tomato soup is the perfect accompanyment for cheese on toast. The soup mustn't be scalding hot though, just slowly warmed through and not allowed to bubble on the pan.
