Exactly. We still have to do our jobs in the meantime as though nothing has happened.

No wonder there is no loyalty between staff and employer these days ,when employers cannot give the same in return.

Just seen that on the local news. Crap news it is too.

On the plus side, Amex seem to be hiring. Since my son and his g/f moved in with me over the Summer, having found it a bit heavy going making ends meet where they were living, they've both found call centre type jobs at Amex. Maybe worth giving 'em a call. Amex that is, not my son and his g/f. Believe Addeco is the agency to try. Good luck.

I think that it was obvious when they bought out HBOS it was just matter of which would go. In most twns there is a Halifax and a Lloyds and obviously they wont keep both open.

I spent six months looking for work at the end of last year/begining of this - it's just hard slog. Things I learned?

- agents are lazy bastards, they won't return your calls or let you know what is going on - so chase them like buggery if they have a job you want;
- they will not put you forward if your cv is not an exact fit - so ask them what the client is after and re-write it again and again - don't lie, just pick out the things that are precisely relevant to the role. Keep a copy of each one and label them so you know what you have said to whom;
- be tenacious - treat looking for a job like a job and work bloody hard at it;
- look at every source for jobs, local paper, EVERY online site, every agent - don't let any job pass you by;
- don't take a job description as gospel, it's a wish list, but you may have skills the client hadn't thought about. I'm amazed how many times employers will look again at a role;
- ask for more - outside of the big fixed pay structure companies, employers really are flexible. If you are right for the job but need to earn a bit more, tell them.
- get a good cv - I used cvnurse.co.uk Free CV help and advice CV writing services from cvnurse.co.uk - they do a free cv health check - She's a chum of mine but she did help me - there are lots of reputable cv firms who genuinely can help - but don't pay very much - you don't need to. In your case Lloyds may help or may pay if you ask them;
- approach people - I'm told a lot of people these days are finding jobs simply by contacting companies who use the skills they have and letting them know they are available. A surprising number of companies will find roles if the right person walks through the door.

Good luck with it - it's a crap thing to happen, but hopefully you'll get a pay out of some kind. That should soften the blow. I didn't get anything....which sharpens your edge a little!

Bring the jobs back from India that's what I say. And to be honest with you, when issues arise with my account I would rather speak to someone in the UK. So please bring the jobs back to the UK.

TRHK is right.

I had my contract ended (soon after being told that they were trying to make it pernament) due to lack of funds earlier this year.

I made jobhunting my full time job. I would spend 8.30am - 5pm every day filling out job apps, attending interviews, looking for further jobs or chasing up agencies. In my opinion, if you want to get back into work this is the only way - it keeps you in the working routine too. I even made up a spreadsheet of all the approapriate jobs I saw, which tracked my application process - the job centre liked it so much, that the local branch now show it as an example to unemployed people!

I learnt very quickly that I would have to be willing to take less pay (after all, reduced pay is still better than jobseekers allowance) and then gradually build up to the position I was in before.

I found it particularly difficult as I found myself applying for entry-level positions (they were all that was available 8 months ago) and I was written off by most employers as overqualified.

As happened, I took a maternity cover post - they didn't mind that I was over qualified as it was only a short term post. This was fantastic, because I was able to have as much staff development as I wanted, whist still getting paid and learning new skills in the job.

I am now, by an amazing twist of fate, back on the original job I started the year on and on more pay. A vacancy came up in the department and my old manager called asking me to apply and that they were willing to pay for the right applicant.

I guess that the moral of my story is never give up. Treat jobhunting as a full-time job. By all means use recruitment agencies, but don't rely on them. Above all be flexible and it will work out in the end - it did for me.

Being unemployed it shit, but keep plugging on and you'll be fine.

I was made redundant when my job went to India in August. Still looking and would say that the advice given above is all good. Try not to be too bitter , move on ,stay positive and make the most of the free time you get...
