I get paid for the work I do, not for hours I've "clocked in" so I can do as much browsing of t'internets as I like.

I wonder what the reaction would be if people paid a plumber (say) to fit a bathroom in their house, but found he was stopping every half hour to check his e-mails, NSC etc.

Well a PLUMBER works on an hourly rate and therefore it is in his employer's interests that he completes his job as quickly as possible.

I work on various projects which I can complete at the office, from home, on holiday, at night or whenever is convenient.

It isn't a case of pissing about on "company time"

I got moved in my office to sit next to the team leader and manager a year and a bit ago. This was partly because they could see me checking on here, and also because i strutted around the office looking to attract the attentions of anyone who would listen. I am now potentially heading for promotion, but i'd rather be sat elsewhere pissing about on here and typing "dressed dogs" into google images everyday.

I've had jobs in the past where forums would cause a problem.

But it's not an issue where I work now
