Two points to add:-

- i am very much part of the problem, I know we were noisy for 5 minutes because I was noisy for 5 minutes.

- I wouldn't have a problem with our atmosphere if we actually owned our (lack of) atmosphere.
Instead we get the deniers
Well I thought it was great we all want for 90 minutes.

The excuses
The team was so bad why should I bother.

Worst still
We also can generate a roof raising, spine tingling, intimidating, ear split, Calderon type atmosphere, esp when it's backs to the walls, whites of the eyes o'clock.

Just like yesterday should have been.

Agree again.
There doesnt even really seem to be people trying to create atmosphere anymore, I think that's a big problem. No group leading - yes apart from those under the police box but pointless them being there cos it's never going to carry in that corner.

When you look around the north, imo the number of types of people clearly less likely to want/be able to create an atmosphere has grown, too. Loads more kids and families, and very middle class fair weather types. Obviously can't do much about that, but imo it's definitely a factor.

Alongside Potter Bashing and Player Scapegoating, there now seems to be a new category called Crowd Blaming. As Tom Hark said on another thread, it's so hard to get animated when the players are playing so poorly. Some argue we should be raising the roof all the time to encourage them along, while others argue the players should be responsible for stirring up the crowd with their performance on the pitch. I'm with the latter group. They're the paid professionals and have to take the initiative, be the spark, to get things going, then atmosphere and performance feed off one another. Yesterday's performance in the main was dreadful, and I'll admit to sitting and staring open mouthed and speechless at the awfulness of it. There were occasional signs of life which in turn had me and those around me making a bit of noise. I'm hopeful yesterday was a one off. Everyone has a bad day at the office from time to time (I'm convinced the lads must have been on the razz Friday night) and this season the performances on the whole have been superb and generally improving. I just really resent being made to feel my fellow fans and I are the problem.

So. Was hanging around at the AMEX after the game and they had the Leicester City game on. Vardy scores and a number of the Albion supporters, across the lounge, cheered his goal with considerable enthusiasm. What’s that all about? Why such enthusiasm for some random teams goal?

I can’t say this game even registered with me, let alone have interest in a goal.

Fantasy points for sure, plus I suspect a little bit of ‘anti petrodollar’ feeling against City. Leicester seem a far more likeable club. Maybe a few closet Liverpool fans watching too [emoji848][emoji848]

I'm not crowd blaming, as such, although I can certainly see how it looks like that.

More the disconnect between perception and reality.
Coupled with the sneering of them up the road and all their fakeness.

Their fake ultras are a source of fun and ridicule for me as much as anybody else.
But after our performance yesterday and their performance, in almost identical circumstances, on Monday, we really don't have a leg to stand on.

Fantasy football and probably just the enjoyment in seeing City(or any of the "big" clubs concede.)

Look at the home atmosphere at Selhurst on Monday, it was shocking until their players decided to wake up and play.

There's nothing wrong with appreciating other teams play and goals, and reacting accordingly.

Those of us who live abroad and regularly watch games with friends who support other teams are quite used to this experience.

Let's be honest, there was little if anything to merit cheers from the Albion's gutless performance yesterday, so one can't blame them for finding happiness elsewhere.

Alternatively.
A piss poor Albion side we're only losing 0-1.
Had 2 VAR's in their favour.
Were attacking the NS.
With 3 centre forwards.
Playing exclusively in their half, except for when they missed an open goal.
Shite scared opposition fans - fearing the worst was coming

The game was only missing a dubious red card to have everything required for a Calderon atmosphere.

As said beyond a 5 minute spell, we gave the team nothing and got nothing back.

Added too the disappointment..yesterday was almost a non event in every way possible ..i dont even feel ive been to a game ..disappointing in so many ways ..i shout out and it’s deadly quiet all around me

Spot on. There's always an excuse why it was crap. Yesterday there was absolutely no excuse for the reasons you mentioned. It's really disappointing that the atmosphere has dropped so much in recent years.

Posters complained about Withdean too. Have we had a good atmosphere since Goldstone?
It's easy to have a good atmosphere when the team is winning, and aiming for promotion but when it's just getting points here & there.

I’m not sure I can remember too many games at the Goldstone where it was electric , if course there were but during the last ten years with exception to the war years it was often like a cricket match with 9k gates

Which lounge? ???

I was also watching the game whilst the traffic queues cleared, and will admit a small cheer when Vardy scored. Not because i'm a plastic, but because I appreciate a well taken goal by the underdogs against the run of play.
And how I wish we had a striker like Vardy at the Amex, how he is still so fast at 32 is beyond me.

Agree with this.

My only disappointment from Monday, was having kept them quiet and baiting them with, "where's your famous atmosphere" we sat back and gave them the opportunity to show us.

Possibly the underdogs thing? On Amex concourses pre match with the live TV game, there’s always people cheering when any of the big 6 go a goal down.

I don't know but someone a few seats away from me stood up and cheered when Leicester scored at the Amex. He then got all upset when people had a go at him!

Or hoping for some cheer with a Flamengo win, which only ended up destroying a bitter weekend even more :(:(
