At the end of my tether
Of course I will be gutted IF we should go down. Somehow it’s a bigger deal than dropping a division in the EFL..
But the thread title is right . We had great times in the Championship and could again. Don’t forget that you will be back in the Stadium for real live football and :drink:

Will probably look in to getting a season ticket (or at least going semi-regularly) if we went down. No chance I’m going next season if we stay up. I don’t want us to go down but it wouldn’t be the end of the world right now.

Bloody love the Championship, me.
Did you love it under Hypia?

I seen a lot, lot worse.

Remember 95/96 oh, and 96/97, when we couldn’t buy a win? When my main concern was if we would still have a club to support the next year?
This is a mere setback, we will still have a club to support next season, we will still fill the Amex, even if, and it’s a huge if, if we get relegated.
I’ve seen us go up and down , more times than a fiddlers elbow, so, no , not a great season, but, certainly not one of the worst by a long chalk.

And, by Christ, we do play some lovely football.

Lovely football, but I'm really not enjoying watching us at the moment. I could do with something a bit more agricultural, hoofball if you will. A 1-0 win in the next game with an own goal off the back of the keeper's head while the opposition has two chalked off by VAR in the last 5 minutes would be just fine and dandy.

Always an odd one to me, talking up the Championship over the PL when faced with dropping back down into it when the whole point of that league is getting promoted from it to the PL otherwise what is the point?

I’ve always talked up the championship, nothing to do with whether we drop into or not. For me it’s very much a case of the journey being better than the destination when it comes to the premier league.

Got to laugh at the rose tinted specs when it comes to The Championship. To me, that league is something we’ve left far behind and I never watch it, why would I? Second rate football when my club is in the top division. I don’t even know who’s top.

I don’t think the journey was better than the destination. Celebrating goals in that league was almost like half celebrating compared to now.

If you finish top, you’ll still only the 21st best team in the country. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that’s still 4 places below 17th in the PL.

Staying in the PL is a bigger achievement than getting promoted. It means we are better than all the teams in The Championship, we don’t need to play them to know that.

I’ll take 1 win at Anfield over 10 wins in The Championship every year.

If you just want to see us win all the time (rather than see us play and test ourselves against he best) then surely you’ll want us in League 2. If I had that attitude then why would I have even started to support the club knowing fully well that the destination/dream was to get to the PL?

When in The Championship, why would you want to see us get promoted if you hated the PL so much? What did you expect? That we’d be top 10 within a season? That we’d be beating the big teams more than 5 times a season? I absolutely didn’t think that, but I have been pleasantly surprised with some of the absolutely massive results we’ve had and that’s the stuff of dreams.

I don’t get this fetishising of away games in the lower leagues. Yeah, we had some great away days, we’ve had some in the PL too.

We get beaten quite a bit in the PL, big deal, all lower league clubs would kill to be in our position because they know a loss in the PL isn’t as embarrassing as the ones they experience.

It’s also very presumptuous to assume that The Championship will be as good as last time. Teams will raise they’ll game against us and we’ll be seen as big time charlie’s and a loss will feel a whole lot worse than they do now and I doubt a win will mean quite as much either.

Great post, trouble is the club play on small club mentality regarding the supporters. Barber is the worst offender, when things are going well the club’s ambition one day is top ten, the one day though is never mentioned ie. what year exactly. Now when we are on a bad run he’s on the radio reminding everyone we used to play at the Withdean and what do fans expect. It’s basically his idea of keeping everyone on board and the £££‘a rolling in.

I’d rather be in the Premier League.

I like playing big teams and I don’t like all the Tuesday evening matches in the Championship which I can’t attend.

If we want to be a big club we need to be in the PL. Relegation would be a massive blow to the club.

Considering the whole point of the championship is to get promoted by any means possible I really don’t get the mentality of wanting to play there again. When I watch championship games now the low quality of football is depressing and we will get dragged back down to that level once all the big earners have left for pastures new.

A lot of the work the club have done will have been undone.

Yes, a lot of people forget about the Tuesday night games. A few years ago (it’s probably about the same now) about 25% of our season ticket holders lived outside of the BN postcode area, so I don’t think The Championship is ideal for them when it comes to attending home games. How many close-ish away games would we have? 3 or 4 maybe?

I’m with you here.
I’ve already seen the “ I’m looking forward to the Friday evening games “ comments.
I would seriously think about becoming a TV Fan if the Sky/BHA love in started again.

My utter hatred of VAR will certainly take the edge off.

I sometimes watch Championship games and am jealous when they score and it's just a goal. No nonsense - just a goal.

I guarantee you, if we go down, and then win the first three games and sit top of the table, we'll all be having fun. We have short memories us football fans, and in the end we just want a team that wins - be that in The Premier League or the Conference.

Did you see the Boro Swansea highlights? Awful ref decisions.

I’d rather be in the PL than see us winning every game in The Championship.

Meaningless forgettable games midweek especially a crap draw, freezing my balls off in the bus queue just feels like I’ve been there and got the t-shirt.

I have got to the age where I can’t be doing with the queues after the game, I stay behind and have a drink if it’s a Saturday match.
For me to enjoy an evening match I also have to make sure i finish my work early, this means losing money.
Probably the same with you, we don’t have jobs where we can simply go home at 5pm.

Sorry no.

It's a disaster if we go down. No positives can sugar coat it.

A whole season of trying to claw back what we’ve lost is going to be bloody embarrassing.

Journey will be over, **** the whole thing.

Can’t wait until we’re bottom of The Championship playing away at Barnsley on a Tuesday night and ‘fans’ telling us how great and how much better it is than the PL.
It's not better than the PL.

Relegation would be a massive set back.
