If you wait until after 7pm to leave London Road carpark it becomes free as they lock up the pay machines and raise one of the barriers at the entrance and exit. You can surely find something to do for a couple of hours after the game on Saturday and then you've got a whole days parking for nowt.

Many a time have I sat in the queue of cars at 6.45pm waiting to leave

Not unless you buy something from the shop now. On entry to the car park you get a plastic card which the checkout girl/boy will validate when you pay for your shopping. Otherwise you have to pay for the parking.
