Took me a few seconds before I understood what a Rowter was when talking to an English telephone engineer a few years ago. He was talking about my router. Coming from an American I get but what Englishmen says rowter instead of router?
Router is one of those words that in English has two completely different meanings depending on pronunciation.
The router you describe above has route as its derivative whilst the router used for woodworking has rout as its derivative. The woodworking tool is definitely "rowter".
