Not that I am suggesting that you should skip fares. There are no barriers at either Westcombe Park or Charlton at the moment. Merely a swipe point for the Oyster card. I have lived here (Charlton) for 8 months and never been checked for a ticket - I do however pay for every journey.

Brighton to London Bridge - London Bridge to Charlton will not see you go through a barrier other than the one at the start of the journey.

There are barriers at London Bridge if you wish to leave the station.

You're too honest. You never once been tempted to bunk it?

No, sadly not. I lost my ticket once and the Brighton inspector didn't believe me and fined me. I told him I had come from Barnes so ended up with a £28 fine. I would hardly have told him I was coming from that far off if I was fare dodging. It would have been cheaper to say I was coming from Haywards Heath or somewhere similar. Good use of common sense (from him and me)!

For the game last season, the woman in the ticket office at West Worthing worked out it was cheaper to get a return to Victoria and then a return from East Croydon to Charlton because of offers they had running. Might be worth a trip to the station to check out the current local offers.

I thought day save tickets were only for Southern trains? Don't you have to get First Capital Connect to London Bridge?

Also can you buy the day save ticket on the day?

If you change at East Croydon then it's possible to get southern trains all the way to London Bridge, not too sure but think there is somewhere that you can buy the group tickets but can't remember where. Probably best to buy a week in advance to save the hastle

Nah, i'm going to clapham junction, then to charlton via waterloo.

That is a hassle. Train to Waterloo. Through barriers. Wall to Waterloo East and then wait from there. The train from Waterloo East will pass back through London Bridge, so you will be adding 20+ minutes to your journey, minimum.

Got cheap advance tickets to London Vic. £2.50 each way, the £2 return from clapham junction to charlton.

The National rail site is showing me about a tenner each on the day, for 3 adults plus 1 child up there and back from Worthing, with a friends and family card.

Sound right?

Well.... You can't argue with that!

Except the last bit puzzles me. Vic serves Blackheath, don't quite get the Clapham Junction bit.

Lancing to Clapham Junction, Clapham Junction to Waterloo East, Waterloo East To Charlton.
Just because I have brought a ticket to London Victoria doesnt mean I have to go the whole way.
