he can still do a job for us against teams where a particualr player needs to be marked out the game - he did it last year when he was right back at forest, and andy reid did not get a sniff all night

Harsh I dont think he should ne in starting 11 but is sill a good option for the bench.

True.

We won't always be fielding an attacking line up. We need solid hard working defensive midfields too. Charlie gives us depth.

I have been waiting for Oatway to be dropped for over a year now, and look what happens when he goes, we win by more than one for the first time since May 2004 at Wrexham :bounce:

charlie ids still good as cover... but if McGhee now brings him back and reverts to our old style when we now have so many more options it would be a real dissappointment.

Exactly! He may not be good enough to play week in, week out now but you simply can't underestimate his influence on our squad. Charlie is an Albion Legend!

I doubt it, to me its no coincidence that two things occured yesterday:

1) Chippie scored- Without the shackle of Oatway this leaves chippie free to advance up the pitch and be well placed to shoot/score.

2) We had a lot of creativity through the centre of the pitch with Hammond nearly scoring and play being spread accross the pitch- something we never seem able to do with the Chippie/Oatway combination.

If we can afford his wages, keep him on as a bench player, but do not start with him. His distribution, apart from anything else, is very erratic at the mo and I do think he's past his best. But he's still a good motivator and should be kept on board if we can afford him.
